Mountain Woods Rookey Location

Complete Secret of the Golden Helmet

In order for the Mountain Woods Rookey to appear in the open world, you need to complete the Secret of the Golden Helmet. This is an unmarked side quest that requires you to head west of First Sight Sanctum in Russet Highlands.
The area contains a lot of Helmuts in the area, as well as the Onlooking Helmut, Watchful Helmut, and Devoted Helmut looking at a golden helmet. Use an Aniimo with the Cloak skill to turn invisible and get the golden helmet.

Russet Highlands

After completing the Secret of the Golden Helmet, Mountain Woods Rookey will spawn in the area south of the forest in the Russet Highlands region.

Mountain Woods Rookey Best Team

Great Versatile Break Aniimo

Mountain Woods Rookey is a reliable Break aniimo for teams of any element. Although its Dark typing lets it take advantage of elemental weaknesses most effectively in Dark teams, it can still fulfill its role effectively alongside aniimo of other elements.

Best Personality
E S T P

Prioritize Energetic (E) for increased Break and Tenacious (T) for more Physical Defense. T is especially useful because Mountain Woods Rookey's trait gives it additional Break based on its Physical Defense.

Prioritize Break and Regen to improve Mountain Woods Rookey's Break and skill uptime. Allocate some points in Physical Defense to gain a bit more Break through its Trait.

Effects
Core Effect: Equipped Aniimo gain 0.7 additional BREAK per level.
Tier 1 Effect: BREAK +2
Tier 2 Effect: BREAK +10%. If BREAK Acquired Potential exceeds 15 points, the effect is doubled.

Mountain Woods Rookey's best Held Item is the Gargantuan Horn since it provides high Break stat through its Core Effect and Tier 2 Effect.

Should You Form a Contract with Your Held Item?

Bouncy Sling IconBouncy Sling
【BOOSTED】
Boosted Bouncy Sling releases an AoE shockwave around the target hit, releasing multiple waves if it ricochets on another enemy.

We do not recommend forming a contract, as its added area damage is only useful against multiple targets and it provides no additional benefit when fighting a single enemy.

How to Play Mountain Woods Rookey

Recommended Skill Rotation

  1. Use Bouncy Sling to close the distance and deal damage to the enemy. If it is available, use Heavy Slam to deal massive Break damage.
  2. Cast the first use of Guardbreak Slam. Perform a full basic attack combo before recasting it. Do this one more time and use Guardbreak Slam's final, stronger recast.
  3. Repeat this until the enemy is broken. Once they are, swap to your supports and apply all available buffs and debuffs.
  4. Swap to your DPS Aniimo and execute its skill rotation.
  5. Once the enemy's Break bar is full again, swap back to Rookey and repeat the rotation.

Start Your Rotation With Bouncy Sling

Open your rotation with Bouncy Sling to increase the target's Break damage taken. This makes Mountain Woods Rookey's next attacks more effective at depleting the enemy's Break bar.

Bouncy Sling Can Ricochet Between Enemies

When multiple targets are nearby, Bouncy Sling can ricochet between them up to 10 times. This lets Mountain Woods Rookey spread its damage and Break pressure across groups of enemies instead of focusing on just one target.

Recast Guardbreak Slam for More Break Damage

Guardbreak Slam can be recast up to three times, with its final cast dealing increased damage and stunning enemies hit. Use the additional casts when you have enough EP to maximize its Break performance. Keep in mind that the stun does not work on Alpha enemies.

Use Heavy Slam for Massive Break Damage

Heavy Slam can remove a huge portion of an enemy's Break bar, making it useful for starting a rotation with a strong burst of Break damage. Once it has been used, build up the Ultimate gauge again through your other skills so you can use it during your next damage window.

Same Skills and Typing as Regular Rookey

Mountain Woods Rookey retains the same Dark typing and skill set as regular Rookey, so its performance and team options remain largely unchanged. It has no exclusive moves or additional elemental weaknesses and resistances that would change how you use it.

Use to Harvest and Carry Materials in Homeland

Mountain Woods Rookey can be assigned to harvest and carry materials in your Homeland when it is not part of your active party.

Defeat a Wild Aniimo With the Ballistic Guard Skill

To accomplish the “Defeat the Opponent by dealing damage with Counter in defense mode” objective, you only need to land the finishing blow with Mountain Woods Helmut’s Ballistic Guard skill. The easiest way to accomplish it is to fight an aggressive wild Aniimo, such as Thornblade, using an Aniimo with a type advantage. First, bring its HP down to a critical level, then switch to Mountain Woods Helmut and let Ballistic Guard’s shockwave effect deliver the final hit.
