It's best to start with Dialga ex in the Active Spot. Invest Energy in this Pokemon until it can use its Metallic Turbo attack to help set up the Pokemon on your Bench.

Try to build up Mega Metagross on your Bench, and only bring it out once it has enough Energy to one-shot your opponent's Pokemon. This will make it much harder for your opponent to stop.

Attach a Steel Apron to it, so that it's immune to any status conditions that can disrupt your game plan. You may also attach a Metal Core Barrier if you're expecting to take a particularly strong blow.

Alternate Card Suggestions

Alternate Cards Possible Cuts

Orthworm
(B2a 077)
→

• Dialga ex can be substituted for Orthworm. It requires less Energy to use its move, but it also provides less Energy to your Benched Pokemon. You may choose whichever suits your playstyle more.

Genesect
(B4 111)
→

• If Pom-Pom Oricorio is a threat, a Lucky Ice Pop can be substituted for Genesect, since it can one-shot Pom-Pom Oricorio.

Since Gholdengo ex's attack gets stronger the more Metal Energy is attached to it, a Metal Energy accelerator like Dialga ex is a great addition to the deck. Dialga ex can also stay in the Active Spot for as long as you need as it loads up Gholdengo ex with Energy.

Alternate Card Suggestions

Alternate Cards Possible Cuts

May
(B1 223)
→

・You can draw a second Dialga ex with May.
・May has a better chance of drawing Gholdengo ex as it can possibly be one of the bottom cards of your deck.

Mars
(A2 155)

Adaman
(A2a 075)
→

・Mars is a good counter for when your Dialga ex is knocked out.
・You won't be able to reuse your Metal Core Barrier, but Adaman can cover for blocking damage.

Dusk Mane Necrozma
(P-A 079)
→

・Dusk Mane Necrozma can be used to take out any Pom-Pom Oricorio.
・Adding Dusk Mane Necrozma to your deck will reduce your chances of starting with Dialga ex, however.

Arceus ex and Dialga ex Deck

Shaymin ×2 Dialga ex ×2 Arceus ex ×2 Sabrina ×1

Dialga ex can consistently power up an Arceus ex, which can attack for as much as 130 the following turn. Because Arceus ex is a basic, it doesn't need to find evolutions like the other Dialga ex partners.

Space-Time Smackdown Shaymin is useful for helping your Pokemon stay out of KO range.

Alternate Card Suggestions

Alternate Cards Possible Cuts

Rocky Helmet
(A2 148)
→

• You can change the counts of Giant Cape and Rocky Helmet to suit your liking based on your experience playing online.
• More Rocky Helmets than Giant Capes can help you reach higher HP benchmarks with Arceus ex's Ultimate Force. Use Red to increase your damage even further.

Mars
(A2 155)
→

• Using Mars after one of your ex Pokemon has been KOd can disrupt your opponent's hand, making them lose valuable win conditions like Cyrus, Sabrina, Red or even evolution cards.

Melmetal ex has a hefty Attack Cost, requiring 4 Energy to use Metal Arms. Dialga ex is used as its Energy accelerator, attacking in the early game with Metallic Turbo.

To increase the damage of Metal Arms, Melmetal ex requires a Pokemon Tool. This deck has the Steel Apron and Rocky Helmet, providing damage reduction and additional chip damage respectively.

This deck has Magearna to counter Pom-Pom Style Oricorio. Steel Cannon deals additional damage to Pokemon with Abilities, allowing Magearna to score the OHKO.

120 damage is also a great damage benchmark to hit, as Yanmega ex can also OHKO Pikachu ex and Pachirisu ex.

Lickilicky ex is a fun partner for Dialga ex, which it can also power up with Metallic Turbo.

Lickilicky ex and Lickitung suffer from having heavy Retreat Costs, though, so starting with Lickitung or having a Lickilicky ex without Energy is disadvantageous. To remedy this, the deck runs multiple copies of Leaf and X Speed to make sure that they can retreat into Dialga ex.

Mew ex has the lightest Retreat Cost in the deck, and also benefits from Dialga ex's acceleration. It can attack with Genome Hacking to KO the likes of Palkia ex or Charizard ex.

This deck uses Dialga ex as the Energy generator for Tinkaton ex. It can attack while you are building Tinkaton ex in your Bench.

Magearna is also added in the deck in case you are facing Pom-Pom Oricorio which counters your ex Pokemon, and is capable of dealing some damage on its own.

Dialga ex Deck Strategy Guide

Dialga ex Setup

Dialga ex is your ideal start in any Dialga ex Deck, and you would always want a turn 1 Energy attachment into a turn 2 Metallic Turbo.

It can also pivot from an accelerator to an attacker with the use of Dawn, by transfering an Energy from a Benched Pokemon and a turn attachment of Energy, which meets the Energy requirement of Heavy Impact.

Primary Attacker Offense

Dialga ex can handily power up its partners sitting on the Bench. Once they're set up, retreat Dialga ex and start attacking with your primary attackers!

How to Beat Dialga ex Decks

Punish Greedy Energy Attachments

Gallade ex is a tough Pokemon to go up against. Their Hitmonlees are able to chip out Dialga ex's Benched partners and put them into range of an eventual Marshadow Revenge KO.

Additionally, Gallade ex's Energized Blade gets stronger for each Energy attached to our Active Pokemon, making it even easier for it to score KOs against Dialga ex decks.

Indeedee ex can also punish you for overcommitting Energies to your Pokemon with its Psychic Attack, which gets more powerful the more Energy the opposing Active Pokemon has.

Discard Dialga ex's Energy

Beedrill ex can sometimes be a problem if it is able to quickly set up. Going up against a Beedrill ex while Dialga ex lacks a second Energy means that it won't be able to successfully use Metallic Turbo.

Team Rocket Grunt supports this gameplan, further denying Dialga ex of essential Energy to pay for its Attack Cost.
