Whimsicott ex is the main threat in this deck. It can deal 130 to 160 damage with only 2 Energy if they are able to attack into Pokemon with high Retreat Costs. Fragrant Forest allows the opponent to find Cottonee and Spinarak. Ariados can increase your Pokemon's Retreat Cost, further increasing Whimsicott ex's damage output.
It is best to use fast and powerful Fire-type Pokemon to counter this deck. Mega Blaziken ex and Shining Revelry Charizard ex are great to use if you can evolve them with Rare Candy early.

Another way to counter this deck is to deny it from finding its Basic Pokemon, either by removing Fragrant Forest or directly targeting the Basic Pokemon on the Bench using cards like Hoopa ex and Noivern.

Using only one Energy, Hoopa ex can weaken a Combee on the Bench for Hydreigon to finish off later. Be sure to always attach a Deceptive Needle on your Active Pokemon for the additional tick damage at the end of your turns.

This no-ex Puppy Pile deck can brute force through the Whimsicott ex deck with good card draws. As much as possible, keep Growlithe until it can attack, as it can hit Whimsicott ex for weakness for a higher chance of securing the KO.
