It's ideal to have Helioptile in your Active Spot at the start of the game. Try to evolve it into Heliolisk as soon as possible with the help of Clemont or Professor's Research. Use this to chip all of your opponent's Pokemon, both Active and Benched.
If you notice that your opponent is intentionally avoiding adding Pokemon to their Bench to prevent unnecessary damage, you can force Pokemon onto their Bench by using Team Rocket's Boss. Make sure that your opponent's Benched Pokemon all have damage on them before moving Team Rocket's Zapdos ex onto the Active Spot.
Prioritize giving your Energy to Team Rocket's Zapdos ex while it's on your Bench once Heliolisk has the one Energy needed to attack. It's also best to equip this Pokemon with a Giant Cape to help it survive strong attacks. When the opponent is sufficiently damaged, have Team Rocket's Zapdos ex sweep with its Thunderclaw attack.

Heliolisk is played in this deck with Magnezone ex as an option to deal bigger damage in the late-game. Magnemite by itself can KO Baby Pokemon, and can set itself up when it evolves into Magneton from Genetic Apex and its Volt Charge Ability. Heliolisk works with Clemont's Backpack, which boosts the damage from its Attack as well as the damage dealt to the Bench.

Heliolisk is an excellent meta pick because of its ability to deal 40 to the Active Pokemon and 10 your opponent's Bench. This can give you win opportunities with Cyrus in the late-game. Furthermore, Heliolisk being a Stage 1 Pokemon that attacks for only 1 Energy is a huge factor for consideration in competitive play.

Clemont's Backpack can increase Heliolisk's damage output by a substantial 20 damage. This damage buff also applies to damage dealt to your opponent's Bench.
You can also stack two Clemont's Backpack to deal even more damage, maxing out at 80 to the Active Pokemon and 50 to each of your opponent's Benched Pokemon.

Mega Manectric ex is a great partner choice for Heliolisk. Heliolisk itself can attack for only 1 Energy, giving it high offensive potential, and also making it easy to score points early on, which helps boost Mega Manectric ex's damage output. Additionally, since both are Stage 1 Pokemon, both are able to benefit from Training Area, which can boost your damage even further.

Heliolisk decks are weak to Fighting-type Pokemon, so these are best used against this deck. Fighting types that can set up quickly such as Rampardos or Mega Lucario ex are especially good to use, so that you can knock out Heliolisk and its partners before they can cause trouble.
Best Fighting Type Deck and Cards Tier List

Heliolisk's strength lies in its high-damage Bench sniping, which is achieved by using Clemont's Backpack. Using Protective Poncho can negate Bench damage, which significantly limits Heliolisk's effectiveness.
