Castle in the Ice

The Castle in the Ice is a quest added in the Dark Arisen DLC of Dragon’s Dogma 2 (DD2). This guide will show you a walkthrough of The Castle in the Ice, including its quest location and rewards!

Reach the Elevator in the Mountain Stronghold

# Walkthrough
1 Stronghold entrance
Head to the Mountain Stronghold, south of North Valgrian Frostgrove, and go to the chamber where you fought the Fallen Dragon.
2 Up the Stairs
Once inside the chamber, head east through the two large doors, then climb the south-facing stairs to an open area.
3 Take the Elevator
Follow the path to the elevator on the eastern side of the upper area and interact with it. Waves of monsters will attack while you wait for it to arrive, so hold your ground.
4 Eir after help
Ride the elevator, then head east to the Norgan Snowfield. A cutscene will show Eir struggling against monsters. Help her fight them off to continue.

Help Eir Get to the Ice Wall

# Walkthrough
1 Follow Eir
Follow Eir to a large wall of ice, where she then asks you to slay a Gagana and bring back its Firebird Tallow to melt the ice.
2 Eir Asking for Help
Whiteout disables map navigation for roughly half of the trip to Gagana’s Grotto, and the cold will wear you down, so pack Heatstones before you set out. Choose “I’m ready” when you are prepared to proceed.

We suggest placing a Norgan Portcrystal near the wall of ice before heading out to avoid the trip back here later.

Path to Gagana
Head to Gagana’s Grotto, southeast of the Norgan Snowfield.
4 Inside Gagana
Once you're in Gagana's Grotto, keep heading straight, eastward until you reach an open area.

Obtain the Firebird Tallow to Melt the Ice

# Walkthrough
1
Eir Talking - Gagana
In the open area of Gagana’s Grotto, Eir explains the ritual to summon the Gagana. There will be a Portcrystal here, so don't forget to activate it.
2 Put a Saurian
Summon the Gagana by placing 1 Saurian on each of the 3 pyres (3 Saurians total). Two Saurians are in the main area, and there will be a group of saurians nearby for the third.

Gagana Summoned
Once the ritual is complete, the Gagana will show. Defeat the Gagana to obtain the Firebird Tallow.

Ballista
Once you have the Firebird Tallow, port back to the Mountain Stronghold and apply the Firebird Tallow to the ballista, found near the elevator area from earlier.

You'll have to aim then fire the ballista at the ice wall to break it.

Snowfall Valley Cavity Location
Head to Snowfall Valley Cavity, which the ice wall was blocking earlier.

Port back to the location if you used a Norgan Portcrystal like we suggested earlier.

Follow Eir to Lorade Castle

# Walkthrough
1 Cavity Entrance
Inside Snowfall Valley Cavity, you’ll find a multi-level cave system. Head southeast and keep descending to the bottom-most level, where you’ll find a hook tether post to rappel down.

Snowfall Cavity Map 2BF
After rappelling, head northeast to the underground lake. A cutscene will show Eir opening a path. Take the same path as her, just note that the terrain is tricky, and that the water is deep.

Follow the path in the image we provided, it will be the direct path to Lorade Castle
3 Lorade Castle - Portcrystal
Upon approaching Lorade Castle, follow Eir and activate the portcrystal along the way.
4 Eir
Climb the stairs and open the door to trigger a cutscene revealing Eir’s intentions and the Fallen Dragon’s significance.

Spare
You will be given the choice of destroying or sparing the corpse and helping Eir.

Choose to spare the corpse, Eir will then ask you to seek the Sage’s advice about the Fallen Dragon and her Arisen.

Should You Destroy the Corpse?

Ask the Sphinx How to Save Eir's Arisen

Ask the Sphinx
Port to the Shrine of Wisdom, and ask the Sphinx for a way to save Sir Rovall. Once the Sphinx explains what it takes to slay the Fallen Dragon, the quest is complete.
