There are three Difficulty Settings in Dragon's Dogma 2. Read on to learn the difference between Normal, Casual difficulty, and Hard Mode, as well how to change the difficulty!
List of Contents
| Casual | A more relaxed experience, with lower inn fees, cheaper ferrystones, higher weight capacity, lower stamina consumption, and safer dragonsplague. Note: This mode locks you out of the Closure and The True Arisen trophies. |
|---|---|
| Normal | The standard, intended experience with the game's default, unscaling difficulty and survival systems. |
| Hard Mode | Hard Mode increases the power and resistances of enemies, while also increasing their XP and DCP yield. The mode for those who want a true challenge, as the enemy difficult doesn't fall off starting Level 40, unlike in the easier modes. |
Normal Mode is the intended Dragon's Dogma 2 experience, with regular costs, Stamina consumption, weight limits, and Dragonsplague consequences.
Casual Mode was added in Patch 2.01, a major title update on September 2024, which made several aspects of the game more forgiving, including lower inn stay costs, reduced Stamina consumption, and higher carrying capacity. Effects of Dragonsplague are also lessened on Casual Diffculty, with Pawns healing on their own when infected.
Hard Mode was added in free Title Update 4.0 in October 2026, alongside the paid Dark Arisen DLC.
How to Start Hard Mode
and Changes

You can switch from Normal to Casual Difficulty mid-game through Game Settings in the Options menu from the title screen. Casual Mode lowers the overall difficulty, but some trophies cannot be obtained while playing on this difficulty.
Do take note that once you switch to Casual, you cannot change it back to Normal Difficulty during your current playthrough.

If you started your game on Casual, you cannot change it to Normal Difficulty during your current playthrough. However, you can choose Normal Mode when starting New Game Plus after finishing the game.
New Game Plus Changes and Everything That Carries Over

If you find yourself struggling against an enemy, consider leveling up your character and ranking up their Vocation. Being higher level with more skills unlocked makes combat easier.
The most straightforward way to level up is to fight and kill any enemies that you run into along the way. Defeating them grants you experience points, as well as discipline points.
Leveling Guide: How to Level Up Fast

You can also obtain better Armor and Weapons for better survivability and to dish out additional damage when going toe-to-toe with enemies that are stronger than you.
Build your party around the weaknesses of the enemies you expect to face. Bring Pawns with complementary Vocations so you have a balance of damage, support, and utility.
