As a Main DPS Varka presents as an Anemo character that does not focus on Anemo, adding his own unique spin by being a PHEC DPS rather than a complete Anemo DPS. This standout identity is made even more prominent due of the fact that Varka builds completely into ATK rather than Elemental Mastery, making it so that he is a flexible carry that can cover for a variety of situations where a singular element is required. Not all upsides come without caveats however, and with Varka, he almost always wants to be in a team with the following: An Anemo unit capable of activating one of his Ascension Passives, two units of the same element to guarantee his elemental infusion, and a Hexerei unit to boost his damage frequency. This puts a damper on the amount of units he can pair up with, as lacking one of the three significantly affects his damage output. Even then, his damage multipliers are still considered lacking in today's meta landscape since he cannot one-shot delete a majority of opponents in an environment where that is supposed to be the norm. In addition, the downside to his unique PHEC Anemo DPS identity is that most Claymores in the game do not apply to him fully, making his Signature Weapon a near must-have if you want to optimize him, simply because other options are clear downgrades. And yet despite the major downsides, Varka is still able to catch up to the likes of and even surpass Neuvillette and Arlecchino due to his own raw scaling, albeit not to the power level of Nod-Krai units, but still being comfortable enough to pierce through tough content at his best. Lastly, while these team restrictions can limit your options with where to place him, it has the silver lining of being able to surpass the meta as he is not tied to Nod-Krai itself, and this double-edged limitation may be what allows him to remain relevant in the foreseeable future. |

|---|---|---|---|
• Simple but effective playstyle as a DPS, as it mainly revolves around activating and re-activating his Elemental Skill while spamming Normal Attacks. • Versatile playstyle teambuilding as he can fit into most Mono-Element teams so long as the Anemo, Hexerei, and Elemental requirements are met. • Has a great exploration option built into his kit with his leap, allowing him to cross otherwise impossible distances. | |||
| Weaknesses | |||
• Can't compare to the top-tier DPS of the current meta due to his incredibly low multipliers, along with his many dependencies such as team comps and Hexerei: Secret Rite. • Versatility loses value in harder content, especially when the content is catered for specific teams that he isn't built for. • Most of his damage heavily relies on his signature weapon as other options are considered subpar. |

Additionally, being in Nightsoul's Blessing increases these bonuses by 75% and does not count down if the user is off-field. Redhorn Stonethresher Base ATK: 542 Bonus Stat: CRIT DMG 88.2% Skill Effect: DEF is increased by 28%. Normal and Charged Attack DMG is increased by 40% of DEF. | Varka's best Hexerei-centered team, with all requirements met to skyrocket his damage. |
F2P variant, with Sucrose enabling the team's Hexerei status. |
Since Varka deals multi-element damage and benefits from the Hexerei: Secret Rite buff to increase the fluidity of his Elemental Skill, Varka is outfitted with Gest of the Mighty Wolf for its universal stat buffs and attack speed, and A Day Carved From Rising Winds for its Hexerei-specific buffs.
With how his build works, highly investing into ATK and CRIT nets him the highest personal damage increase since the rest falls on investing equally into his teammates.
| Stat | Goal Value |
|---|---|
| ATK | 2,500 ~ 3,000+ |
| CRIT Rate | 70 ~ 80% |
| CRIT DMG | 200% or above |
| Energy Recharge | 100 - 130% Only get Energy Recharge if you plan to Burst every other rotation. |
Varka wants as close to 3,000 ATK as possible, then as much CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG afterwards, with CRIT Rate being at its max at 80% and CRIT DMG above 200%.
If his Elemental Burst is within your damage rotation, then get his Energy Recharge to 130% since this, combined with another Anemo unit, should be enough to let Varka use his almost every other rotation.
| 1st | 2nd | 3rd |
|---|---|---|
| Elemental Skill | Elemental Burst | Normal Attack |
Elemental Skill will be his primary source of damage for almost all of his damage distribution. Elemental Burst and Normal Attack can be ignored altogether as his Burst is a damage loss due to its long animation, and Normal Attack is irrelevant in any of his damage.
However, if you're looking to further increase his damage, go for his Elemental Burst, as it does give a bit of damage.
Varka's best-in-slot weapon by a significant margin would be Gest of the Mighty Wolf, which increases his ATK SPD and overall DMG, especially with Hexerei members. As his signature weapon, this weapon is tailor-made for him and his playstyle.
Otherwise, weapons that improve his ATK, CRIT stats, or DMG in general are welcome, with A Thousand Blazing Suns and Serpent Spine as welcome and viable options.

Additionally, when the party has the "Hexerei: Secret Rite" effect, each stack of Four Winds' Hymn will increase the CRIT DMG of the equipping character by 7.5%. |
| Significant contributor for most of his damage as it gives him ATK SPD and buffs his DMG for every Normal Attack and Elemental Skill that he uses, further increasing if he is with another Hexerei member, which his best teams usually include at least one. | |
| Statstick | A Thousand Blazing Suns A Thousand Blazing Suns Base ATK: 741 Bonus Stat: CRIT Rate 11.0% Skill Effect: Increases CRIT DMG by 28% and ATK by 20% after using Elemental Skill or Burst. Additionally, being in Nightsoul's Blessing increases these bonuses by 75% and does not count down if the user is off-field. |
| Varka can use effectively use this weapon and benefits from its CRIT DMG and ATK buff that it provides when he use Elemental Skill is used. Granted, the main value of this weapon on Varka is it's massive CRIT Rate stat that serves as a statstick for him. |
| Best 4-Star | Serpent Spine Serpent Spine Base ATK: 510 Bonus Stat: CRIT Rate 27.6% Skill Effect: Every 4s a character is on the field, they will deal 6% more DMG and take 3% more DMG. This effect has a maximum of 5 stacks and will not be reset if the character leaves the field, but will be reduced by 1 stack when the character takes DMG. |
| Generally, this is his best 4-star option, but it is difficult to maintain uptime as his teams usually don't include shielders. | |
| F2P | Tidal Shadow Tidal Shadow Base ATK: 510 Bonus Stat: ATK 41.3% Skill Effect: After the wielder is healed, ATK will be increased by 24% for 8s. This can be triggered even when the character is not on the field. |
| Hard to maintain if you don't take enough damage, especially when played with Bennett. However, it does work best when Furina is in the team. | |
Without a doubt, Varka benefits from A Day Carved From Rising Winds as his best option, as that directly translates to more personal DMG for him, allowing him to reach his ideal ATK and CRIT stats which directly translates to more damage.
As for alternatives, you can either go 2-pc. Elemental and Anemo sets, or even go 2-pc. ATK and ATK sets while farming up for a full Hexerei artifact set.

| Best-in-Slot | A Day Carved from Rising Winds A Day Carved from Rising Winds 2-PC: ATK +18%. 4-PC: After a Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst hits an opponent, gain the Blessing of Pastoral Winds effect for 6s: ATK is increased by 25%. If the equipping character has completed Witch's Homework, Blessing of Pastoral Winds will be upgraded to Resolve of Pastoral Winds, which also increases the CRIT Rate of the equipping character by an additional 20%. This effect can be triggered even when the character is off-field. |
| Varka's Best-in-Slot by far since it specifically offers ATK and CRIT Rate, which become unconditional additions when in the hands of a Hexerei character. Varka also benefits more from the CRIT Rate due to the frequency of his attacks, resulting in higher team DPS. |
| Element-Focused | Viridescent Venerer x2 2-PC: Anemo DMG Bonus +15% 4-PC: Increases Swirl Reaction DMG dealt by 60%, and Stellar Swirl reaction DMG dealt by 20%. Decreases opponent's Elemental RES to the element infused in the Swirl by 40% for 10s. Upon triggering a Stellar Swirl in the opponent, will also decrease their Cryo RES by 40%. RES debuffs of the same elemental type do not stack. Crimson Witch of Flames x2 2-PC: Pyro DMG Bonus +15%. 4-PC: Increases Overloaded, Burning, and Burgeon DMG by 40%. Increases Vaporize and Melt DMG by 15%. Using an Elemental Skill increases 2-Piece Set effects by 50% for 10s. Max 3 stacks. |
| Can be a competitive choice before achieving a 4-pc. Hexerei set if artifact substats result in Varka having consistent CRIT Rate and high CRIT DMG, along with the elemental DMG boosts from both Anemo and their desired element. It should be noted that Crimson Witch of Flames should be substituted for whichever Elemental DMG Bonus is most prominent in Varka's team. |
| General | Gladiator's Finale x2 2-PC: ATK +18%. 4-PC: If the wielder of this artifact set uses a Sword, Claymore or Polearm, increases their Normal Attack DMG by 35%. Shimenawa's Reminiscence x2 2-PC: ATK +18%. 4-PC: When casting an Elemental Skill, if the character has 15 or more Energy, they lose 15 Energy and Normal/Charge/Plunging Attack DMG is increased by 50% for 10s. This effect will not trigger again during that duration. |
| Not too much of a downgrade from Viridescent Venerer and Elemental DMG%, and is more of a general option since no matter what you choose, Varka will benefit from the double ATK% bonus from these sets. Similar to his other 2-pc. combination option, this is more of a placeholder set until Varka can acquire a full 4-pc. A Day Carved From Rising Winds set. |

|---|---|---|
| Substats: CRIT Rate > CRIT DMG > ATK% > Energy Recharge > Elemental Mastery |
| Summary: • Varka's DMG scales hard with ATK, so it is imperative to stack it as much as possible. • CRIT Rate will find more value over CRIT DMG due to how often Varka attacks, valuing frequency over potency. That being said, a 1:2 ratio is still ideal to have a balanced CRIT value. • Elemental DMG Bonus Goblets can be picked for Varka, but only to completely minmax for that particular team. An ATK% Goblet will see more value overall if Varka's team comps are flexible. |

List of Artifacts and Set Bonuses
Varka shines best in Mono-Element Hexerei teams, most notably Mono-Pyro alongside a Hexerei unit to enable his full potential as his damage scales with ATK, and Pyro Resonance helps greatly with this.
Alternatively, he can be slotted into any Mono-Element team with a Hexerei unit that allows him to take advantage of his Elemental Infusion and the Hexerei: Secret Rite buff.
Hexerei: Secret Rite Buffs Explained
| Varka Mono-Pyro | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Team Summary Varka requires an Anemo Unit that can proc Swirl to give him more damage, in which Prune and Venti are the best options for this, with Prune providing Anemo DMG and buffs, and Venti for their grouping and damage capabilities. Nicole and Durin serve to provide more damage to Varka via their own kits, Pyro resonance, and sustainability from Nicole's part. Alternate Teammates Alternatively, Sucrose also fulfills the role of a Hexerei unit in order to trigger Secret Rite, contributes by shredding enemy elemental resistance via her kit and Viridescent Venerer, and increases team Elemental Mastery for higher Swirl damage. Bennett operates on the same principle as Nicole, and is considered a sidegrade due to his only downside being that his buff is within a fixed zone. Xiangling serves as the Pyro resonance enabler and a secondary DPS for the team. |
| Varka Mono-Hydro | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Team Summary In Mono-Hydro teams, teambuilding will be more focused on accounting for the Hydro identities in your party, since someone like Furina would want a healer like Jean for fanfare, requiring you to take Mona as your next slot to meet Hexerei: Secret Rite's requirements. Alternate Teammates If Venti or Sucrose is chosen, then the board opens up to taking Sigewinne instead of Mona for your healer. Finally, opting for Xingqiu instead of Furina would give you more flexibility on team choice, but prevents you from reaching the full strength of Mono-Hydro since Furina contributes a significant amount of strength for this team comp. |
| Varka Mono-Electro | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Team Summary Mono-Electro is more straightforward, as Fischl is nearly non-negotiable on this team. Venti and Sucrose are chosen depending on whether a Sub-DPS or a pure support is warranted, and the last Electro slot is a flex slot which can be filled by the likes of Iansan, Shinobu, or other off-fielder options. |
| Varka Mono-Cryo | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Team Summary Mono-Cryo's teambuilding should be treated in the same vein as Freeze teams, with Escoffier being a non-negotiable unit due to her Cryo RES shred, and Shenhe for her ATK buffs. There are currently no Cryo Hexerei units as of now, so Venti or Sucrose must be taken to meet the Hexerei: Secret Rite requirements for Varka. Alternate Teammates Alternatively, Kaeya can be taken as the team's Cryo applicator and battery since Varka will be a majority of the team's damage, and Diona can be picked if a sustain option is required. |
| Character | Explanation |
|---|---|
Support Thoma can go in place of other options due to his strong Pyro shielding. He also doubles for activating Pyro resonance and allowing Varka to constantly infuse his weapons with Pyro without using other shielders. |
Sub-DPS If the opportunity is available, Mavuika can serve as a secondary DPS within Varka's Mono-Pyro teams, both on-field and off-field. |
Sub-DPS Yelan functions on a similar vein to Xingqiu on Varka's Mono-Hydro teams, and can even be an upgrade if Varka waits out his last enhanced Elemental Skill to fully reap Yelan's DMG bonus. |
Support When paired with another Hydro unit like Furina, Varka can have Kokomi on the team to reliably trigger Furina's fanfare and keep the team alive. |
Sub-DPS Raiden can take over as an Electro member for Varka's mono-electro team, and can be a secondary electro DPS alongside Fischl. It is not advised to replace Fischl with Raiden unless you have no other choice. |
Sub-DPS Yae Miko is on a similar boat to Raiden, but requires more set-up time to use her abilities. |
Support Charlotte provides on-demand burst healing for the team, which is welcome if you are against multiple opponents. |
Support While being built more as a Physical Support, Mika provides a rare ATK SPD bonus to Varka, which is useful in enabling his Elemental Skill faster if Hexerei: Secret Rite is already active. |
Support Layla provides both sustainability and Cryo application for Varka, which is welcome if her shield is heavily invested into since it can save Varka from any interruption. |
Support Lan Yan provides steady elemental shielding for Varka, but results in the loss of a Hexerei member for the team. |
Support Kazuha provides one service in lieu of another in the sense that he provides more of an elemental DMG boost for Varka, but cuts down his team by one Hexerei member. |
Due to the nature of his mono-elemental teams alongside Swirl, Nod-Krai units like Columbina, Ineffa, and Aino could technically see use in Varka's teams, but will not be effective due to Swirl being the only elemental reaction present.
It is for that reason that the Nod-Krai cast are better off being placed in other teams, even if they would provide Varka with sustainability or elemental application.

"Fill High the Cup With Fine Wine, for Tyrants Come and Go" Increases Elemental Burst Northwind Avatar Level by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15. |

Additionally, the Azure Fang's Oath effect in Ascension Talent Wind's Vanguard is enhanced: Every stack of Azure Fang's Oath will increase Varka's CRIT DMG by 20%. |

If you're looking to further increase Varka's damage, we highly recommend grabbing his weapon, Gest of the Mighty Wolf, instead of constellations, as it gives a hefty amount of damage even compared to his C2.
Varka's main strength lies in dual wielding two weapons, with one dealing permanent Anemo damage, and the other being infused with either Pyro, Hydro, Electro, or Cryo.
With that in mind, putting him in Mono-Element teams lets you control the infusion of his attacks, which is where he shines best.
| Favonius Bladework: Dancing Radiance |
|---|
| Imitating an ancient knightly war-dance, Varka wields dual claymores to perform up to 5 consecutive strikes.
Charge Attack Consumes a certain amount of Stamina to charge forward and perform an especially powerful dual blade slash toward the front. Plunge Attack: Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact. |
| Windbound Execution |
|---|
| Manifest the true essence of Favonius Bladework with absolute power. Produces different effects depending on whether the skill is Tapped or Held. Leap forward and slash in one fluid motion, dealing AoE Anemo DMG and switching to Sturm und Drang mode. While in Sturm und Drang, Varka's Normal Attack and Charged Attack DMG is increased, and he cannot perform Plunging Attacks. Also, when performing Normal or Charged Attacks, Varka's dual-wielded claymores will deal corresponding Elemental DMG based on the Elemental Types of the characters in the party, respectively. This Elemental DMG cannot be overridden by infusions. Additionally, when in Sturm und Drang, if there are Pyro, Hydro, Electro or Cryo characters in the party, Varka's Elemental Skill Windbound Execution will be converted to the special Elemental Skill, Four Winds' Ascension, dealing corresponding Elemental DMG and Anemo DMG. Additionally, Varka can also expend uses of the special Elemental Skill Four Winds' Ascension to perform a special Charged Attack, Azure Devour, that does not consume stamina to deal corresponding Elemental DMG and Anemo DMG. Hold Attack: After charging for a while, leap forward. The duration of the charge will increase the distance of the leap. |
Varka's Elemental Skill appears to be his bread and butter, and casting it infuses your weapon with an element based on any PHEC elements present in your party, allowing you to use your empowered Normal Attacks to deal a mix of Anemo and Elemental DMG.
While in his Elemental Skill, you are able to perform a Special Elemental Skill at certain intervals, causing Varka to jump and slam his sword into the ground, dealing AoE Elemental DMG in an area.
Alternatively, you can also use a Charged Attack instead of the Special Elemental Skill, which causes Varka to perform a Cross Slash instead, achieving a similar effect.
Holding down Varka's Elemental Skill instead causes him to perform a forward leaping jump into the air and letting him either cross gaps, scale elevations, or set himself up for a plunge attack.
| Northwind Avatar |
|---|
| In the name of the mightiest Knight of Boreas, unleash a powerful double slash attack toward the front, dealing 2 instances of Anemo DMG. If there are Pyro, Hydro, Electro or Cryo characters in the party, the first slash will be converted to deal corresponding Elemental DMG according to the aforementioned priority order of Elemental Types. |
When casting his Elemental Burst, his sword is infused with an element that is present in the party before he runs in and performs two consecutive slashes, dealing both Anemo and PHEC DMG.
| Dawn Wind's March |
|---|
| When there are Pyro, Hydro, Electro or Cryo characters in the party, according to the aforementioned priority order of Elemental Types, every 1,000 points of Varka's ATK will grant Varka a 10% Anemo DMG Bonus and corresponding Elemental DMG Bonus (among the aforementioned Elemental Types, only one element can gain bonus DMG this way). Up to 25% bonus DMG can be gained this way. Additionally, if there are at least 2 Anemo characters, or at least 2 characters of the same Element among Pyro, Hydro, Electro or Cryo in the party, the Normal Attacks, Charged Attacks, Special Charged Attack Azure Devour and the special Elemental Skill Four Winds' Ascension that Varka deals or unleashes while in the Sturm und Drang mode will deal 140% of their original DMG. If there are at least 2 Anemo characters and at least 2 other characters of the same element among Pyro, Hydro, Electro or Cryo present in the party at the same time, the aforementioned effect will be increased to 220%. |
| Wind's Vanguard |
|---|
| When nearby party members trigger Swirl reaction(s), Varka gains one stack of Azure Fang's Oath, increasing the DMG dealt by his Normal Attacks, Charged Attacks, special Charged Attack Azure Devour and special Elemental Skill Four Winds' Ascension by 7.5% for 8s. Max 4 stacks. Each character can grant Varka with 1 stack of Azure Fang's Oath every second this way. |
Varka's A2 Ascension Talent allows him to deal increased DMG when other members in his team trigger Swirl, giving him a bonus when slotting him with another Anemo unit.
| Homebound Wind's Paean |
|---|
| For every party member from Mondstadt, the Hold version of Varka's Elemental Skill Windbound Execution's CD is decreased by 5%. This effect does not trigger in Domains, Trounce Domains, or the Spiral Abyss. |
| Witch's Eve Rite: Dawn's Return |
|---|
| After completing Witch's Homework: The Untitled Question, Varka will become a Hexerei character. When the party includes at least 2 Hexerei characters, you will gain the Hexerei: Secret Rite effect, which enhances Hexerei characters.
Hexerei: Secret Rite Enhances the special Elemental Skill Four Winds' Ascension: When Varka hits an opponent with Normal Attack(s) in Sturm und Drang, the CD of Four Winds' Ascension will be reduced by 1s. |
As a Hexerei member, Varka can benefit off of being placed in teams with another Hexerei character, unlocking his Hexerei: Secret Rite talent and letting him lower the cooldown of his Special Elemental Skill even further with every attack he performs.
This allows him to possibly double his damage output when placed in a Hexerei-based team. However, this can only be done after completing his Witch's Homework assignment when he releases.
