Final Fantasy Resonance (FF Resonance) is based on the first story arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, but it rebuilds the mobile RPG into a standalone console RPG. Learn the differences and similarities between Resonance and Brave Exvius here!
List of Contents

Final Fantasy Resonance uses traditional turn-based combat, where players select actions and plan their moves around enemy weaknesses.
This differs from Brave Exvius's touch-based battle system, which lets players tap party members to attack and chain their actions together.

Visions serve as a way to customize party members in Resonance rather than functioning as separate playable units. Players obtain them through gameplay and equip them to characters to gain additional abilities and passives.
Brave Exvius instead uses a gacha system to summon units, including characters from other Final Fantasy games, making unit collection a central part of party building.

Resonance is a premium RPG built around a standalone single-player experience, with players purchasing the game rather than relying on Brave Exvius's free-to-play mobile model.
In Brave Exvius, gacha summons are a core part of acquiring units. This difference changes how players obtain characters and approach party progression in each game.
Is Final Fantasy Resonance Gacha?

Although Resonance follows the first story arc of Brave Exvius, its scenario has been rewritten to suit a console RPG. Dialogue has been revised, some story events have been rearranged, and side quests feature entirely new scenarios.
The original story remains the foundation, but these changes adapt its presentation and pacing for a standalone adventure.
Is Final Fantasy Resonance a Remake?

Exploration in Resonance includes a world map and an airship, giving players a way to travel across the game's world and experience the scale of their journey. These features support its traditional RPG structure and emphasize traveling between locations as part of the adventure.

Random encounters return in Resonance, allowing battles to begin as players explore. The minimap changes color as enemies approach, with yellow indicating nearby enemies and red signaling that a battle is imminent.
Managing MP, recovery items, and other supplies is an important part of exploring Resonance's dungeons. Players need to consider when to use consumables and how to conserve resources as they progress through an area. This adds another layer of preparation to its turn-based battles and dungeon exploration.

Rain, Lasswell, and Fina are among the familiar characters who connect Resonance to Brave Exvius. The new game revisits the mobile RPG's first story arc, retaining its central cast and story foundation while revising parts of the original adventure.

Several other characters from Brave Exvius also return in Resonance as Visions, including Charlotte, Aileen, Amelia, Camille, Wilhelm, Victoria, and Ayaka.
Rather than joining Rain, Lasswell, and Fina as separate party members, these characters appear as equippable Visions that grant abilities and passives to playable characters.

Resonance retains the pixel-art aesthetic associated with Brave Exvius, but presents it through an HD-2D visual style. Pixel-art characters appear alongside more detailed environments, lighting, and visual effects, giving the new RPG a modern presentation while preserving a classic Final Fantasy look.

Building a party suited to each battle remains an important part of both games. Brave Exvius centers on collecting and developing individual units, whereas Resonance lets players customize characters through equipped Visions that provide additional abilities and passives.
In either game, choosing suitable characters and abilities helps players prepare for combat.

Familiar summon-related elements help maintain the Final Fantasy identity across both titles. Brave Exvius features Espers such as Ifrit and Shiva, which players can summon during battle. Resonance also features summons, bringing powerful entities and dramatic attacks into its RPG experience.

Exploiting elemental weaknesses remains a useful strategy in Resonance, just as it is in Brave Exvius. Players can take advantage of enemy vulnerabilities with suitable attacks, while powerful abilities add spectacle to combat.
Although the battle systems differ, identifying weaknesses and using the right skills are familiar parts of both games.
