Genshin is a big work you could call the one that created the currently trendy anime-style open-world game trend, and the shock of a work with console-worthy quality being playable for free and even on smartphones is, thinking about it now, still insane. Its impact on the game industry was tremendous too, greatly contributing to raising the quality of subsequent smartphone games. In this game, the fun comes from clearing exploration and combat by making full use of gimmicks called elemental reactions, and I think it's amazing how combat that isn't simply about hitting or not hitting a weakness gives new meaning to using characters. The story is complex and hard to get into, but since it's designed so that even free-to-play players get rewards the more they play, the point that you can keep enjoying it forever is a happy one too.

It's been a while since I really played Genshin, but there were quests that I really enjoyed completing, like the story of Dainsleif's friend and Ruu in Tsurumi Island. Another good memory I have about the game was when I reached the floating island in Qingyun Peak and enjoyed the music and view for a few minutes. Since it's been so long since I last played, I've been having a hard time catching up on quests and grinding to level up my characters. I still keep the game on my phone in case I want to return and have time to grind.

Elden Ring is the epic love child of FromSoftware, the game developer that is hell-bent on making players turn their controllers into projectiles, and George R.R. Martin, the author who has a knack for creating beloved characters who ultimately meet their end after three chapters. You take on the role of the Tarnished, and you will venture forth through the harsh and unforgiving world of The Lands Between. Players will helm both sword and shield as they weather the landscape of battle unleashed by the gods and their kin. The game is the very definition of sheer will, as it constantly tests players' mettle through the usual soulslike difficulty expected from FromSoftware. Explore the vast reaches of the game's open world, defeat numerous foes and demigods in battle, and strive to become the Elden Lord.

An open-world action RPG etched into gaming history, the finest of the 21st century. Despite its overwhelming difficulty, it has an addictiveness that makes you want to challenge tough enemies again and again, and the sense of accomplishment the moment you win is an appeal you can rarely taste in other games. On top of an enormous amount of content, it also features highly free character building through diverse builds, boasting a level of polish that lets you keep playing for hundreds of hours. The DLC adds new weapons, areas, and bosses, letting you enjoy a new adventure with a volume rivaling the main game. The breadth of exploration and build-building expands even further, and it has the appeal of keeping you playing long after clearing it.

The only game that I've ever played that I'd call a "true open-world". It always amazed me how after the tutorial, you're free to do whatever... enter Caelid underleved, fight the Tree Sentinel with beginner equipment, or just simply explore. Despite the difficulty, none of the fights ever felt unfair (except for Consort Radahn...), and every inch of exploration felt marvel. Also, unironically, this game made me feel fear no other games have done before. The fear of the unknown, fear of death, it was crazy feeling all sorts of emotions when I was playing this game.

Monster Hunter: World is the fifth main entry in the Monster Hunter series. It stays faithful to the franchise's core gameplay by focusing on hunting and battling powerful monsters using a wide selection of weapons, each with its own mechanics and learning curve. The game encourages players to take advantage of the environment during hunts, such as trapping monsters with vines or dropping boulders to inflict significant damage. These interactive elements, combined with its weapon-specialized combat, create a distinctive hunting experience that is engaging and rewarding, making the game enjoyable for both solo players and cooperative group.

A work that became my gateway to getting hooked on online games. I'd always liked the Monster Hunter series and had played since "Monster Hunter Portable 2nd," but in this game I interacted with other players, joined a circle, and started playing with friends almost every day. It's a deeply memorable work that gave me a new gaming experience not just of playing a game, but through connections with people. In particular, "Extreme Behemoth" remains strongly impressed on me as one of the toughest, hardest monsters in Monster Hunter history. Of course there was challenging it in coordination with friends, but the once-in-a-lifetime experience of hunting together with players I met in random multiplayer was also a big appeal. Also, I took on solo hunts, which were extremely difficult at the time, and I still can't forget the sense of accomplishment when I finally defeated it after trial and error. It's a special work to me that taught me not just the fun of hunting, but the joy of community and cooperative play unique to online games.

Stardew Valley is a cozy farming life simulation role-playing game where players inherit a neglected farm and build it into a thriving homestead while becoming part of the local community. Players can grow and sell crops, raise livestock, fish, mine for resources, and customize their own farm. Beyond farming, there is also the relationship-building that allow players to befriend villagers, complete quests, participate in seasonal festivals, and even marry and start a family. Stardew Valley is a game where players have the freedom to progress at their own pace providing a relaxing atmosphere and rewarding progression.

Technically, Stardew Valley is on many platforms but I mainly play it on the Switch. It's the perfect game for when you just want to relax after a tiring day. I've always wanted to live in a rural area surrounded by animals and nature. I think this is why this game has such a hold on me. Apart from that though, the game's story and characters are all so adorable. In the game, I get to live my dream of becoming an entrepreneur who lives in a cabin surrounded by nature. I get to use the plants I grew for my dishes, and I can visit my friends whenever and walk alone at night because it's safe.

Diana / 20s / Female

In my opinion, one of the best cozy games ever made. It's inspirational to me as a game development student too since this was made by just one guy. I have almost 1000 hours in this game and I will always go back to it as one of my gaming safe spaces. I recently went to the Festival of Seasons concert too here in Manila and it was so worth all the hours of gameplay and saving up for the merch.

There are mainly three reasons I recommend it. The first is that a CRPG with this scale of production is almost nowhere to be found in today's market. The second is the overwhelming amount of content. Combining the main story and side quests, there's enough volume to play at least 100-150 hours. The text volume rivals an ultra-long novel too, and beyond repeat playthroughs, you can have a very dense experience in multiplayer with friends. The third is the high degree of freedom. Many of the choices the player thinks up as "I want to do this" are actually possible, giving you the sense of creating your very own story.

Show original (日本語)

Diana / 20s / Female

In my opinion, one of the best PC games of all time. I never knew that Dungeons and Dragons could be so well implemented into a video game. Every story arc, every boss fight, every detail was so well thought out. This game has no bad reviews from me at all. This is the first game where I really felt like "Wow, I can actually do anything I want, and the game will deliver the consequences without missing a beat". What an absolute unit of a game, honestly.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is an RPG game that blends turn-based combat with action RPG elements, providing a fresh take on the genre. The game is set in a world with the Paintress looming over it. Every year, the Paintress paints a number, after which everyone whose age is above that number disappears. Players follow Expedition 33, the latest group of people who set out to fight the Paintress, and stop her from painting once and for all.

A perfect marriage of nearly every creative field you can think of. The music? moving and grandiose. The art direction? Like concept art came to life straight from the page. The acting and voices laced to the brim with nuance and emotion. The gameplay an evolution of turn based and action, the Pictos and Lumina system a sandbox for experimentation, the characters all harboring a depth I've never seen before in a video game. Expedition 33 is a monolithic achievement in terms of interactive media. It is a moving painting crafted with a philosopher's insight and an artisan's masterful hand. It is a story that forces you to think about your own mortality, and those of your loved ones, it shows how differently people grieve, and how none are wrong but also none are right, and if you attempt to come to your own conclusion, even your very own family might suffer for it. Death comes for us all, but what can we do but cope? All the elements are there and they work together to create one of the finest works of art that I've had to use a controller to interact with.

Ronald / 20s / Male

One of my best games of all time. The game is really addictive and it was able to seemingly combine turn-based and action into one challenging but fun experience. Everything is top-notch from top to bottom. The story really hooked me until the end. It was confusing at first but really good when everything was put into place. The music really sets the mood of the battle or moment, and you are drawn into it.

Hades is a roguelike game where you play as Zagreus, the son of Hades. Your goal is to escape the Underworld and reach the Surface, encountering famous characters from Greek mythology along the way. During your journey, you will receive Boons from the Gods, which serve as temporary upgrades to make Zagreus stronger. Since Hades is a roguelike game, you will inevitably die, but each time you do, you become stronger by unlocking new weapons and upgrades. Hades is perfect for players who want to engage in roguelike action while also enjoying a compelling narrative as an added bonus!

Survey voice

かど

The exhilarating combat, the art style themed on Greek mythology, and the varied, interesting build-building. Those alone are plenty appealing, but I think what makes "Hades" truly excellent is its roguelike narrative structure. Every time you fail to escape, you get to encounter new story bits, conversations between characters, and lore about the world. This design breaks the conventional structure where you can't see the rest of the story unless you clear it, making failure itself the driving force that advances the story. So no matter how many times you lose, it naturally makes you think "I want to try one more time."

Show original (日本語)

Jowi / 20s / Prefer not to say

This game was the peak of the pandemic for me. I remember spamming my keys so much that my keycaps actually fell off, and I had to get them replaced. Though this game nearly gave me arthritis in my hands and wrists several times, Hades is addictive to play, which I get is the whole point. However, it's so satisfying to be able to make a build of your own and watch how fast it shreds through enemies.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a first-person RPG based on the tabletop game, Cyberpunk. Players assume the role of V in the neon-sprawling Night City, taking on missions and gigs that can lead to different outcomes depending on the player's choices. A massive selection of weapons, cyberware, and abilities allows players to create countless builds for V, giving every playthrough a fresh experience.

Survey voice

Jamal / 20s / Male

I know Cyberpunk 2077 had a really rocky launch, and it actually took me three years to finally play it after the Phantom Liberty DLC came out. And honestly, Phantom Liberty really made V feel like he was in an actual spy movie. But underneath all the bugs and crashes, there was a genuinely good game. The characters felt alive, and romances like Panam’s really made it feel like I was connecting with someone. I’ve always been a fan of the cyberpunk genre, from Blade Runner to Ghost in the Shell and Altered Carbon. This game really made me feel like I was a merc trying to survive in an unforgiving city of sin, chrome, and bullets.

Ronald / 20s / Male

I really enjoyed the story of this game, it really hooked me with the struggles of V and how he/she will do anything to survive. The choices you make throughout the game can really shape your relationship with your friends and how the game would end. The skills you can give your character in game really make every single playthrough different. You can create havoc for your enemies if you want or just chill and drive alongside others on the road.

Undertale is a narrative-driven RPG made independently by Toby Fox where you control a human child who has fallen underground into a world of monsters. As you navigate this strange world, you must forge your own path but not without the consequences of your actions as this game does not allow you to forget. Known for its deeply complex yet quirky characters, emotional story arc and everlasting impact left long after the game is over.

At first glance it's a very simple, quite plain pixel game. The battle system is surprisingly easy too, and the playtime is by no means long. But when you encounter an enemy in the game, this work asks the player: "You, why do you kill monsters?" In many RPGs, an enemy that appears before you is treated as something to be defeated. But "UNDERTALE" prepares a completely different path there. You can progress without killing a single one. By talking, encouraging, dancing, and so on, you can end every battle in another form. And the so-called "enemies" that appear in this game aren't mere obstacles. Each one has a name, a personality, and a story. If you kill them, the game remembers it. If you spare them, it remembers that too. Every choice the player makes influences the story's final destination. But what shocked me most was that this game behaves as if it understands "I am being played by the player right now." At a certain moment, the game calls your name, touches on actions you took before, and makes you realize. That the things you thought you had "redone," this game had never once forgotten.

Show original (日本語)

"Red Dead Redemption 2 is GTA with Cowboys. The ""2"" in the name is sort of a misnomer kind of how Final Fantasy games are all not related. Red Dead Redemption 2 is more of a prequel to the first game. It's closer to a massive 100 hour cowboy simulator with an absurd amount of attention to detail. This ranges from interactions, dialogue, even in-game physics and horse poop. This is a masterclass by Rockstar in major emotional damage, immersive gunplay with cowboy weapons, and horsing around."

Red Dead Redemption 2 was such an amazing and beautiful game. I already loved the first game, but the second one grabbed my heart and completely destroyed me. You can really tell the devs poured so much emotion into this game.

This is not just a game, but a whole experience. RDR2 warped my preferences in narratives, and I began to seek out games with more positive endings, as much as possible. It also raised my standards for open-world games.

Since I was hyping it up so much, the bar was high, but it was satisfying enough that I played without sleeping for a week after release. The volume at launch was small, and I dropped off faster than any game in the series' history. I think the many reused monsters, like the Guardian variants, made me get bored quickly. - A die-and-retry game different again from Dark Souls - First off, you're surprised that the die-and-retry skills you cultivated in Dark Souls don't work - There's no guarding, but the "deflect" system where you time it to the enemy's attacks is very fun but hard - Besides bosses, there are mini-bosses, and they're genuinely strong - Even the regular enemies are plenty strong and you'll die easily - A midgame boss that's a peak is extremely strong and you'll nearly break, but challenging it many times, you get used to it and can beat it, and you start feeling a rush - There are many strong bosses, making it rewarding

I played it on PC a while after release. I've played all of FromSoftware's die-and-retry games since Dark Souls, but SEKIRO is the most fun. Within the hardcore rigidness of a die-and-retry game, stylish action elements are woven in, and above all the combat is just fun.

R.E.P.O. is a co-op horror game that lets you play as robots tasked with exploring different areas and recovering loot for profit. Its gameplay involves having you use magnetic powers to control a cart, lift objects to place on it, and sell them at extraction points for money. The game also features proximity voice chat to talk to other players and quick movement actions for hiding from enemies. This is an endless stage-based game that lets you continue your tasks as long as you meet the required quota. Each stage becomes more difficult as the game progresses, featuring multiple monsters exploring the different rooms, higher quota requirements, and more extraction points.

In the lineage of Lethal Company-style roguelike collection action where you gather treasure and evade enemies. A work that greatly extended the point of defeating enemies to cash them in; especially in the early game the enemies' attacks are powerful, so it's very fun to think about how to evade or cash in enemies at low cost. In multiplayer the difficulty drops greatly, so it also has a festival-game side, giving different play experiences solo and in multiplayer.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is the long-awaited sequel to Team Cherry’s critically acclaimed Metroidvania, Hollow Knight. Developed over seven years by the three‑person studio, the exploration-driven 2D platformer places players in the role of Hornet, The Knight’s sister figure, clad in her signature red cloak and armed with her Needle. She must "Hegale! Shaw!" her way through the silk-ruled kingdom of Pharloom against more than 150 new enemies and ascend toward the Citadel at the summit. Combat emphasizes agility and faster tempo, delivering a more acrobatic experience than its predecessor. Silksong has firmly established itself as one of the most celebrated indie sequels, to the point that its immense player anticipation caused multiple games to delay their September 2025 launches. It went on to win 2025's The Game Award for Best Action/Adventure, as well as earning the Game of the Year and Best Game You Suck At recognitions at the 2025 Steam Awards.

A stunning Metroidvania that evolved even further from the previous work. Honestly I can't believe a work of this quality is out as an indie game in the 2,000-yen range. This time the protagonist finally speaks, and dialogue scenes and event direction increased greatly. Thanks to that, the flow of the story became much easier to grasp too. And Hornet has a very strong presence and appeal as a protagonist. Her bearing, lines, and fighting style all have personality, and you naturally get drawn in while playing. What's especially wonderful is how the boss-fight direction and the BGM mesh. Some battles are so polished you'd think, "maybe the song was made first, and the boss fight was designed to match it." Personally, the ones that especially stuck with me were Trobbio and the Cogwork Dancers. On the other hand, I felt there are quite a few problems with the difficulty-curve design. Rather than simply having bite, there are conspicuous parts designed to intentionally torment the player or make them feel it's unfair. On top of that, the rewards for defeating bosses are too small, so I was also bothered by the early game's difficulty being quite high. That said, by the time you reach the third act, I think many players will forgive even those complaints. That's just how much overwhelming passion and appeal this work has.

Silksong is a game that I've waited for many years now, and it had lived up to its expectations. The only reason why it isn't in my top spot, is because there were many games that I've played since that were equally as good, but touched me in the heart more just a little bit more. However, that doesn't make Silksong any less of an amazing experience.

Elden Ring Nightreign is FromSoftware's take on what it would be like to condense their iconic action RPG system into an entirely unique co-op game mode that mixes roguelike and battle royale elements. Nightreign is a standalone co-op spinoff of Elden Ring that literally drops you and two other players in a shriking map where you have to work together to get stronger and beat bosses to progress in short, action-packed, and most likely frustrating sessions. Each run you go on is different with how the map changes and you face new and returning bosses that you might be familiar with from the entire franchise including Dark Souls. The critically-acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV is Square Enix's second attempt at an MMORPG after the success of Final Fantasy XI. Following its disastrous 2010 release, the game was brought offline after a world-ending in-game event before being released again as A Realm Reborn in 2013. Now, Final Fantasy XIV is considered one of the best MMORPGs of all time, with its second major story arc currently underway. The game is also well known for its generous free trial, which currently includes A Realm Reborn, the award-winning Heavensward expansion, Stormblood, and the critically-acclaimed Shadowbringers expansion. This trial lets players play the game for free with no restrictions on playtime up to Level 80, allowing them meet new people, as well as experience amazing writing, fantastic music, and a lovable cast of characters.

- First off, the story that's synonymous with FF14 is very interesting, moving me enough to think "please make it a movie," it was really great. While MMOs commonly have a custom of basically skipping the story and immediately grinding levels, I think putting effort into a story you can enjoy even solo is a wonderful idea, and precisely because of that the world is established, and the game atmosphere born from players enjoying it while understanding that world is very nice. - The battles are fun. Later MMOs have copied its battle gimmicks and systems many times, but the reason I still feel FF14 is good is that "because the gimmicks and enemy attacks are firmly linked to the story background, the immersion into combat is different." Rather than an impressive-graphics follow-up game that merely inherits FF14's gimmick ideas, the reason I feel FF14 is good is precisely that it sublimates them into gimmicks you can solve only because all players understand the enemy's background and world through a highly satisfying story, things like "this boss is a fire god, so wouldn't getting in the water be good?" or "this boss battle's field is set up as a special ship built specifically to defeat the boss lurking in this sea, so wouldn't activating the ship's device in time with the boss's attack timing be good?" - The BGM is good. I'd never been that interested in BGM, but around the time I entered the Stormblood arc in FF14's story, I was suddenly struck, the BGM is just plain good. Not only the tracks for each area but also those for dungeons and boss fights are all highly polished, and I experienced the amazingness of BGM for the first time. Not just BGM, but the attention to all the sound is tremendous; for example, walking sounds change depending on the floor material and shoe material, and you can even choose whether sound is picked up from the camera position or the character position. These many fine details connect to the feeling of not merely playing a game, but living in FF14's world as a character. - The amount of content. This may partly be content volume that comes precisely from a long-running game, but the breadth and variety of content is enormous, and every player is made to have an aptitude for some kind of content. That's why I think the player population keeps growing even after running this long. - Character design. Later games may have higher freedom or be prettier, but despite having so many people on a server, it delivers seamlessness with no lag while producing maximum-level graphics, I think. Also, the freedom of character creation is on the narrow side, but fine attention to detail can be firmly reflected as individuality. At a glance, people tend to think character creation is better the more freedom it has, but in FF14 that isn't necessarily so. That's because the current freedom is designed not to break FF14's world. Keeping a fantasy world while allowing character creation with various individual races (burly races, simple humans, cat people, rabbit people, tiny people, beast-folk), the current state is just right.

- The MMORPG successor to FF11 - A super-popular work with hundreds of thousands of players even now - It's an MMORPG, but it also has a story-game side where the main story boasts console-level quality or higher - The battle content is nicely divided by difficulty so that everyone from beginners to advanced players can enjoy it - Since it's a game that's continued for over 10 years, the content is enormous, and trying to do it all would turn you into an old man - For better or worse, all kinds of people are around, so experiencing a bit of a village society, whether that's good or bad, I don't know - There's a lot of trouble in interpersonal relationships, so be careful when you play - The game itself is very fun, but you feel a rut if you keep at it long; since the battle system is being overhauled from patch 8.0, veteran players coming back might find it fun

Show original (日本語)

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open-world RPG where you play as the Dragonborn, a mortal born with the soul of a dragon, on your quest to defeat the World-Eater, Alduin. Players don't need to rush through the story because there are a lot of sidequests each with their own plotlines that add to the lore of the world you're in. Plus you can get useful weapons, items, or powers. It's fun to choose which race you are playing as because NPCs have different reactions for each. While viewed by many as a 2D version of Minecraft, Terraria capitalizes where Minecraft falls short: Level Progression. While both games feature the core dynamic of mining for resources and equipping different tiers of Armor crafted from various metals, Terraria establishes its core gameplay loop into defeating Bosses in order to obtain better equipment, and unlock harder content. Terraria also has four main classes to choose from, making progression unique for each class, while retaining the same level of achievement and satisfaction for defeating its increasingly difficult Bosses. Easy to get into, and is highly addictive once you understand the core gameplay loop and you start progressing through the game.

I really loved that the signs and the oil weaknesses were brought over as a battle mechanic in the game. I like the fact that as a player I need to be mindful of which signs and oils to use for exploiting weaknesses, I really felt like a Witcher. I love how there's no good or bad endings with the quests, having to choose which is the lesser evil made me ponder on the choices of this game a lot. 4/5 only on gameplay because of the side quests that breaks the meta, like Geralt is in a hurry to find Ciri but instead he spends time going around doing weird menial tasks. If the side quests were more pressing and felt like Geralt really has to be bothered to do them and because it's on his way, I'd probably rate gameplay a 100%. There are some side quests that can be done after completing the story, but the rewards aren't that valuable at that point.

Thranidr / 55+ / Male

By far the best action RPG made to date. Follows the books relatively closely with the main characters. The quests are far from simple fetch and carry, they add to the story and immersion in the game.
