Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is widely regarded as one of the greatest entries in the franchise. Packed with hundreds of quests, an enormous monster roster, and brutally satisfying G-Rank hunts, it captures everything that made classic Monster Hunter so addictive: a game where every hard-fought victory feels like a genuine accomplishment. The combat is deliberate and unforgiving. Every mistake is punishable, and every successful hunt feels earned. Combine this with local multiplayer, and it transforms the experience to unforgettable co-op memories with friends. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite remains one of the most beloved entried in the series and a benchmark for classic Monster Hunter.

- Probably the single work that spread "Monster Hunter's" popularity - Making the high hurdle of multiplayer, which was hard on the PS2, easy to play on the PSP was the biggest factor in its spread - The number of monsters and abundance of weapon types made it very rewarding to grind - Above all, "let's go on a hunt!" with friends was the ultimate fun - A gem of a masterpiece that let you taste the fun of playing with friends more than you can now

My very first Monster Hunter game and the one that introduced me to the series. I have a lot of memories with this game, especially how difficult yet rewarding it was whenever you built better gear as you progressed through the game. I used to play this a lot with my friends and relatives, and it would take up the whole day.

Monster Hunter World is the fifth mainline installment in the monster hunter series. It remains true to its franchise appeal of actively hunting and fighting monsters through various weapon types with their own levels of complexity. The world built for Monster Hunter World allows its players to use the environment to their advantage, whether to trap monsters through vines, or drop a boulder to deal massive amounts of damage is a welcome strategy. With its gameplay elements, it shows its unique playstyle of hunting with a healthy mix of action, making it perfect for solo or cooperative play.

A work that became my gateway to getting hooked on online games. I'd always liked the Monster Hunter series and had played since "Monster Hunter Portable 2nd," but in this game I interacted with other players, joined a circle, and started playing with friends almost every day. It's a deeply memorable work that gave me a new gaming experience not just of playing a game, but through connections with people. In particular, "Extreme Behemoth" remains strongly impressed on me as one of the toughest, hardest monsters in Monster Hunter history. Of course there was challenging it in coordination with friends, but the once-in-a-lifetime experience of hunting together with players I met in random multiplayer was also a big appeal. Also, I took on solo hunts, which were extremely difficult at the time, and I still can't forget the sense of accomplishment when I finally defeated it after trial and error. It's a special work to me that taught me not just the fun of hunting, but the joy of community and cooperative play unique to online games.

Kingdom Hearts 2 has to be iconic for its introduction of flashy, fast, smooth, and stylish gameplay to the KH franchise. The added "context-specific" triangle button to do insane things, the introduction of different forms, and an overall edgier and over the top anime vibe is where Square Enix sort of mastered the identity of "Kingdom Hearts". The standardized camera and the removal of platforming stages was also for the best in this game.

I'm not really sure what to say about this game considering the ratings I gave it. Maybe not an objectively perfect game but definitely a perfect game for me. It improved a lot on KH1 combat and felt so much more fluid. Great worlds, great plot, and great combat.

Where do I even start? This is the game that shaped my whole identity, combining the two franchises that I have loved since time immemorial: Final Fantasy and Disney. It also introduced me to the character whose heart I aspire my own to be like.

A lot of players back then weren't able to play Monster Hunter Tri, as it was the first time the series was placed on a Nintendo console: the Wii. Strangely enough, it was a bit barebones compared to the games that came before and after it. Since Capcom rebuilt the engine from scratch, they had to slash the monster roster and cut four entire weapon classes just to get the game to run on Nintendo's white box. What we got in return was the birth of Moga Village, the debut of the Switch Axe, and the introduction of the infamous underwater swimming mechanics. It was also the only Monster Hunter game to have splitscreen co-op, albeit limited to the arena.

Since it was the first Monster Hunter series game I ever touched, I was able to fully enjoy even the underwater combat that was unpopular among players who'd played through the series. The high customizability of the Bowgun and the fun of crafting gear were good points too. It was also my first online game, so there's quite a lot of nostalgia bias.

As a sequel to Monster Hunter 3 it was really fun. The feel of the weapon I was using had changed, so I only played up to clearing the story, but the graphics were good, and even though it was a bit heavy, it was my first Monster Hunter you could play on a handheld screen, so I enjoyed it.

Hades is a roguelike game where you play as Zagreus, the son of Hades. Your goal is to escape the Underworld and reach the Surface, encountering famous characters from Greek mythology along the way. During your journey, you will receive Boons from the Gods, which serve as temporary upgrades to make Zagreus stronger. Since Hades is a roguelike game, you will inevitably die, but each time you do, you become stronger by unlocking new weapons and upgrades. Hades is perfect for players who want to engage in roguelike action while also enjoying a compelling narrative as an added bonus!

Survey voice

かど

The exhilarating combat, the art style themed on Greek mythology, and the varied, interesting build-building. Those alone are plenty appealing, but I think what makes "Hades" truly excellent is its roguelike narrative structure. Every time you fail to escape, you get to encounter new story bits, conversations between characters, and lore about the world. This design breaks the conventional structure where you can't see the rest of the story unless you clear it, making failure itself the driving force that advances the story. So no matter how many times you lose, it naturally makes you think "I want to try one more time."

Show original (日本語)

Jowi / 20s / Prefer not to say

This game was the peak of the pandemic for me. I remember spamming my keys so much that my keycaps actually fell off, and I had to get them replaced. Though this game nearly gave me arthritis in my hands and wrists several times, Hades is addictive to play, which I get is the whole point. However, it's so satisfying to be able to make a build of your own and watch how fast it shreds through enemies.

"Red Dead Redemption 2 is GTA with Cowboys. The ""2"" in the name is sort of a misnomer kind of how Final Fantasy games are all not related. Red Dead Redemption 2 is more of a prequel to the first game. It's closer to a massive 100 hour cowboy simulator with an absurd amount of attention to detail. This ranges from interactions, dialogue, even in-game physics and horse poop. This is a masterclass by Rockstar in major emotional damage, immersive gunplay with cowboy weapons, and horsing around."

Red Dead Redemption 2 was such an amazing and beautiful game. I already loved the first game, but the second one grabbed my heart and completely destroyed me. Arthur felt like someone I actually knew, almost like a close friend I went on this long journey with. That ending was one of the few moments in gaming that actually made me cry. You can really tell the devs poured so much emotion into this game.

Stef / 20s / Female

This is not just a game, but a whole experience. RDR2 warped my preferences in narratives, and I began to seek out games with more positive endings, as much as possible. It also raised my standards for open-world games.

God Eater helped prove that you can in fact lay a proper challenge to the dominant species, in this case, Monster Hunter. By adopting a slick, speedy anime-inspired style, God Eater and its expanded edition God Eater Burst catered to players looking for an alternative option to the king of PSP hunting games. Players could switch between weapon modes rapidly when using their God Arcs, swapping instantly between melee, gun, and eater forms to tackle the fast-based battles and fearsome Aragami foes. They could also express themselves and min-max their power by creating customized projectiles and gimmicks in the bullet editor, able to break the game with the right combination of bullet patterns. God Eater also distinguished itself by focusing on companionship and allowing even solo players to hunt alongside NPC partners, relieving some of the lonelieness on a platform with limited online functionality like the PSP.

Since I was hyping it up so much, the bar was high, but it was satisfying enough that I played without sleeping for a week after release. Monster Hunter Rise is the 6th mainline game of the Monster Hunter series, released on the Nintendo Switch. In previous Monster Hunter games, battles are slower and the only weapon that you can jump in is the Insect Blade. In Rise, the introduction of the Wirebug mechanic turned it into fast-paced combat with verticality, aerial attacks, and quick dodge for any weapon you choose. General movement around the map is now quicker with the addition of Palamutes, your trusty canine companion. Monster Hunter Rise strikes the perfect balance between old-school and modern, even with how the new armor sets look and the new monster designs. It's a good entry point for newcomers into the world of Monster Hunter.

I'm not a hardcore Monster Hunter player, and I couldn't really get into World at the time, but when I played this next it just clicked. After leaping off the back of the Palamute, controlling the Wirebug and smashing a monster's head with the hammer feels absolutely amazing. The story and music are both the best. Despite being a heavy story, it's not designed to just make you read endless text; it's designed to draw you in with the world, dialogue, and music. It's enjoyable on its own, but since it's part of a series, I'd recommend the past works too, a masterpiece. However, since it also has what's commonly called "Yoko Taro style" salvation-less storytelling, people who are mentally fragile might not be able to handle it. Also, since it's more action-heavy than the previous works, it's hard to recommend to people who aren't used to games...

The second part of the long and beloved Xenoblade saga, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 switches things up with a new protagonist, Rex, and a new take on its famously deep combat system, one that prioritizes the partnership between characters and their living Blade weapons, like Pyra and Mithra. A wonderful masterpiece. Of all the games I've played, its story hit me the hardest, and it's a shame I can only give it a perfect 5. The gameplay was consistently enjoyable overall, but I'd dock points because trying to 100% it takes an absurd amount of time. The graphics were beautiful, at least by the standards of the time. The battle themes are of course always cool, and the insert song "Counter Attack" that plays at various points in the story comes at the perfect moment, playing right when you want it and sticking in your ears. Beyond the main pair Pyra and Mythra, even the enemy character designs are top-notch. There are tons of appealing characters that make it easy to empathize with the enemy side too.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open-world RPG where you play as the Dragonborn, a mortal born with the soul of a dragon, on your quest to defeat the World-Eater, Alduin. Players don't need to rush through the story because there are a lot of sidequests each with their own plotlines that add to the lore of the world you're in. Plus you can get useful weapons, items, or powers. It's fun to choose which race you are playing as because NPCs have different reactions for each. TESV:Skyrim is well-known in the community for the number of mods available that range from cosmetics, UI changes, or just hilarious additions to the game. It's a game that feels different each time you play it because of the freedom you have when building your character and interacting with the world.

I’ve played it on both the PS5 and PC, and I would say the PC experience is better because it gives you access to a wider variety of mods. The reasons it remains one of my favorite games are the same as before: it’s incredibly immersive, the amount of content feels endless, and it gives you the freedom to decide who your character is and what kind of person you want them to be.

I am a really big Monster Hunter fan, so I was really excited to play this again after it was a Nintendo exclusive for such a long time following the PSP. I really enjoyed the combat and how you have to adapt your playstyle depending on the monsters you hunt. I never got tired of hunting different monsters throughout my entire playthrough, which is why I ended up 100% completing the game on both PS4 and PC.

Monster Hunter returned to PlayStation after a long time; grinding Kulve Taroth endlessly with a friend is a good memory. (He ultimately never got his hands on the spread Heavy Bowgun he wanted most before Iceborne arrived.)

Set in modern-day Shibuya, The World Ends With You is an action RPG that immerses you in its setting through the stylish visuals and music. Its unique battle system perfectly makes use of the Nintendo DS's two screens, allowing you to control two characters at once in combat. One the bottom screen, you can use the pins that you obtain throughout the game to attack. To use these pins and eliminate your enemies, swipe, tap, and press with your stylus. On the top screen, you will be able to play as another character by pressing inputs on the D-Pad in a certain order. While you can let the game auto-play the top screen for you, it is also satisfying to get into the rhythm of getting both characters in sync. The story also tells a heartfelt story about human connection. You play as Neku, who lost his memories and refuses the company of others. As he is dropped into the life-or-death Reaper's Game, he is forced to cooperate with others to survive. Follow his quest to regain his memories, as well as to discover what Shibuya and its people mean to him.

Goddess of Victory: NIKKE is a rail shooter gacha game which uses a cover-and-fire battle system, available for both PC and mobile. On release, its designs had warranted mixed reception for its leaning on suggestive designs on a majority of its playable characters, but players were quickly absorbed by the game's surprisingly dark story and the worldbuilding around the concept of humanity retreating underground. The gameplay has a low skill entry, but combined with teambuilding has a high skill cap, especially when it comes to dealing with either boss fight raids, or PvP. Compared to other gacha games in this generation, the developers are suprisingly communicative and generous with their compensations, and have not hesitated to give updates to characters that are in need of updates like buffs and adjustments.

Despite the challenge of compressing the Monster Hunter formula into the Nintendo 3DS, Monster Hunter 4 managed to defy all odds and came out as a complete package, with fans even calling it and its successor, MH4U, the pinnacle of the series. It set the standard for the franchise’s storytelling, letting each monster you fight advance the narrative and the mystery of the Gore Magala. While it retains the interconnected, closed-off area sections of the classic entries, the environments feel more dynamic, with more sections you can climb and jump on. This adds a layer of strategy to the gameplay loop when you pair it with the new mechanic–mounting and attacking monsters–granting you a huge advantage when you successfully execute it. This interaction between the mechanics and environment would even continue to be iterated upon well into the future entries of the franchise, like World and Rise.

An action game where it's fun to switch gadgets and build combat to match the enemy. In particular, the minigames are substantial, and the rewarding battles with hard added conditions as post-story missions, plus races, shooting, and other minigames were so fun I could play them forever. Before I knew it I was playing them while neglecting the story. The character design is well done too, and the object modeling and future-feeling stages were quite well made by the graphics standards of the time. Final Fantasy Type-0's orginal PSP release was an ambitiout title that reaches similar heights as Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker and even Square Enix's own Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. As Final Fantasy ARPG, it features a larger scale compared to the acclaimed Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. 14 Playable characters, each with thier own playstyle and allusions to traditional FF roles gives players much more to play with than Crisis Core and KHBBS combined. It also features an overworld for players to conduct military operations in. While darker, bleaker, and more violent than usual, It is nonetheless a classic Final Fantasy premise that involves a plot centering 4 nations each with thier own Crystals. Square Enix was a pushing the limits of handheld consoles during its late 2000s - early 2010s era and Final Fantasy Type 0 was indeed the culmination of all of it. Its a shame that it was never released outside of Japan until its remaster years later
