Hades is a roguelike game where you play as Zagreus, the son of Hades. Your goal is to escape the Underworld and reach the Surface, encountering famous characters from Greek mythology along the way. During your journey, you will receive Boons from the Gods, which serve as temporary upgrades to make Zagreus stronger. Since Hades is a roguelike game, you will inevitably die, but each time you do, you become stronger by unlocking new weapons and upgrades. Hades is perfect for players who want to engage in roguelike action while also enjoying a compelling narrative as an added bonus!

The exhilarating combat, the art style themed on Greek mythology, and the varied, interesting build-building. Those alone are plenty appealing, but I think what makes "Hades" truly excellent is its roguelike narrative structure. Every time you fail to escape, you get to encounter new story bits, conversations between characters, and lore about the world. This design breaks the conventional structure where you can't see the rest of the story unless you clear it, making failure itself the driving force that advances the story. So no matter how many times you lose, it naturally makes you think "I want to try one more time."

This game was the peak of the pandemic for me. I remember spamming my keys so much that my keycaps actually fell off, and I had to get them replaced. Though this game nearly gave me arthritis in my hands and wrists several times, Hades is addictive to play, which I get is the whole point. However, it's so satisfying to be able to make a build of your own and watch how fast it shreds through enemies.

Umamusume: Pretty Derby allows players to train horse girls before putting them through races. While this premise may be simple, the game is anything but. Players not only train the horse girls, but can also learn about the horse's real life counterparts. This is because the careers and stories of these horse girls are based on their real life counterparts. Players are able to see just what these horses went through, both good and bad. Add to that amazing art, great music, and fun events, and you have a game that is more than meets the eye.

It's entirely unique and helps people discover more about the lives of real life horses! With its large fan base and supportive community, it can really help you see sports from a entirely new angle, alongside inspire you with several ideas!

Birb / 20s / Male

Gameplay is repetitive to be honest but the story is great. Simple on the surface, a joy to discuss the characters. Very complex if you delve into the meta.

Return to the Underworld and beyond in the adrenaline pumping roguelike odyssey of Hades II. Follow Melinoë as she travels deep in the dark of Tartarus and up the Surface towards Olympus in the middle of war against Titans and Gods, and to hopefully discover the whereabouts of her long lost family after the House of Hades had fallen into ruin. Grow stronger by upgrading weapons, bonding with your fellow companions, and tapping into the ancient magic much deeper and older than Time itself.

Such a gorgeous and perfect sequel to Hades. I plan to get it for the Switch 2, but I got in on PC because Steam offered early access and I was dying to play it.

Ozzy / 20s / Male

I prefer the first Hades more but the amount of work and the way they switched it up is pretty good. Story is still solid, character design is still top tier.

Elden Ring Nightreign is FromSoftware's take on what it would be like to condense their iconic action RPG system into an entirely unique co-op game mode that mixes roguelike and battle royale elements. Nightreign is a standalone co-op spinoff of Elden Ring that literally drops you and two other players in a shriking map where you have to work together to get stronger and beat bosses to progress in short, action-packed, and most likely frustrating sessions. Each run you go on is different with how the map changes and you face new and returning bosses that you might be familiar with from the entire franchise including Dark Souls. It's the perfect experience for friends who crave the challenge of FromSoftware combat in bite-sized co-op sessions.

A multiplayer action game FromSoftware created in a new form, making use of ELDEN RING's fields, weapons, and bosses. While inheriting the main game's weighty world, you can enjoy combat experiences different from before through dedicated characters, skills, and Arts. The roguelike elements are a big appeal too, strengthening your character while collecting weapons and latent abilities with different added effects. Because your build and strategy change with each playthrough, you can take on the challenge feeling fresh every time. ELDEN RING's appeal and the addictiveness of roguelikes are fused at a high level, making it a highly polished game you'll want to play over and over.

Shiren the Wanderer 2 is a turn-based role-playing game. As the first 3D title in the Mystery Dungeon series, the game retains its dungeon-crawling aspects, where players explore randomly generated dungeons to find resources. The story follows a boy who must defend his village from attacking demons by building a castle.

しろあん / 20代 / 男性

I think it's the finest work in the Shiren the Wanderer series. The balance per dungeon is good and there's a rich variety of special dungeons. Above all, the "Monster Kingdom" system, which is like a combination of a monster encyclopedia and a monster ranch, is genuinely fun. It's a god-tier element usable for both collecting and clearing.

The peak of the Shiren series. The unique weapon system, monster collecting, and the abundant special dungeons, overall the level was high. I want them to release a remake soon or make it playable on Switch.

Shiren the Wanderer is an RPG, turn-based rougelike and is the second installment of the Mystery Dungeon series. Set in feudal Japan, you play as the silent protagonist Shiren, accompanied by his talking weasel companion, Koppa, in a quest to the Land of the Condor. The game is known for its simple yet unforgiving gameplay, where all your items, money, and weapons are all lost upon death and you start at level one all over again.

Fuurai no Shiren GB2 is a handheld Mystery Dungeon roguelike set in a desert castle, where every dungeon is reshuffled and a single death sends you back to square one — pure risk-and-reward crawling. It's a tense, replayable classic. It's for players who love roguelike tension, for fans of considered turn-by-turn survival, and for anyone who enjoys learning from each fatal run.
