The idea of the Wii sounded crazy at the time, but it really made for some fun games. I enjoyed countless nights of this game with my family, it didn't matter if any of us were good or bad at it, it would always be enjoyable.

Im not much of a gamer but i do enjoy party games or games generally played with friends. Usually these games does not have a story, always battle or team up with friends

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the awaited sequel to melee with a surprisingly lengthy and fun story mode called "Subspace Emissary". Compared to Melee, Brawl is slower, floatier, and introduced a controversial mechanic where you have a 1% chance of tripping and being vulnerable. It is a lot of people's entry to the Smash games. What's crazier is it is probably one of the first crossover games with Sonic and Snake being playable characters

Survey voice

Zam / 20s / Male

The trade-off for being the least competitively inclined game in the series is having the best single-player content in Subspace Emissary, which is something I hope to see in the next Smash game if and when it comes out. I had tons of fun playing casually with friends as well.

Lucas / 20s / Male

My first Smash Bros. game, and it was just endless joy. I learned more about Nintendo's vast array of games and characters through it and had a lot of fun playing it with friends and family.

Pokemon SV features an open world where players can tackle gyms in any order, explore every area as they please, and catch any accessible Pokemon regardless of restrictions. It also features the flashy Terastalization mechanic; a generational gimmick that appeals greatly to competitive players due to its flexibility in manipulating their Pokemon's typing.

Survey voice

Lucas / 20s / Male

There were a lot of things riding on this game following Legends Arceus, and in a way it didn't really match that game but Scarlet and Violet did deliver in introducing some really cool concepts and lots of fun new Pokemon additions. In an unexpected twist, it handled its story and characters better than most of the games that came out after Black and White, and I will always commend it for daring to tell a story I don't think was ever done to this level in the series.

ひも

Because it's open world, at first I explored without advancing the story at all, and before I knew it I was on a snowy mountain. When I figured it was about time to beat a Gym Leader and went to a nearby Gym, I got wrecked, and my whole party ended up strung out on healing items.

With 87 playable characters, it's overwhelming as a fighting game. Every character has a clear strength, and there are moments where each is fun to use. Non-Nintendo characters join the roster too, and they're all highly faithful to their originals. The BGM also uses the original games' tracks and arranged versions, making it a lineup that fans of each series will be happy with.

かわしぃ / 20代 / 男性

As the latest entry in the Smash Bros. series currently out, its appeal is above all the sheer number of characters. If you go all-in on serious competition, it's tough because you need counters for every single character, but since it's marketed as a fun party game, I think that's part of what makes it the best game.

Splatoon 3 is a third-person shooter where players play as Inklings or Octolings and use a variety of ink-based weapons to battle opponents while covering stages in their team’s ink. The game features the series’ signature Turf War mode alongside other competitive multiplayer modes, as well as a story campaign that follows Agent 3’s search for Captain Cuttlefish. Players can also customize their character, choose from a wide variety of weapons, and take part in seasonal Splatfest events.

It's no exaggeration to say this is the only thing I play on the Switch. It solidly incorporates the point that recent games are missing: getting a big thrill in a short amount of time. This also ties into the trendy "dopamine"-related buzzwords, but as expected, rather than a game you can't play without buckling down for long stretches, it's structured to be easy for people of all types to enjoy.

Splatoon 3's solo portion was the most fun of any game in the series so far (including the added DLC). I wasn't that interested in competitive play, so 1 and 2 didn't hook me, but 3 had really substantial solo content and I was able to enjoy it for a long time.

Splatoon is a different kind of competitive-shooter, as it focuses on territory control. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where evolved squid-human hybrids called Inklings battle for dominance in the city of Inkopolish. You are recruited by a veteran named Captain Cuttlefish to fight off the Octarians, an army of rival octupi who stole the city's power source. During Turf War, the game's main multiplayer mode, the goal is to coat as much of the ground as possible with your team's color ink before the three-minutes are up. It's one of Nintendo's more unique spin to an existing genre.

Super Smash Bros. Melee was the follow up to the original N64 title, launching shortly after the GameCube's launch, and quickly become a system seller, and a must-own game for the console. Despite its relatively short development cycle, Melee took everything great about the original entry on the N64 and made it bigger; the game featured a larger roster of both starting characters and characters that could be unlocked by meeting various conditions. The game also contained three story modes: Classic, Adventure, and All-Star (which was unlocked only after obtaining all characters). Additionally, the game added various bonus modes for play, such as Event Matches, Home Run Contest, and Multi Man Melee. However, the heart of Super Smash Bros. Melee was its Versus mode, where you could engage in battles with up to four players (human or CPU), and take advantage of various different rulesets to vary the type of matches you play. This included choosing between stock, time, or coin battles, free-for-all or team battles, as well as toggling on and off a multitude of items. On that note, Melee greatly expanded the list of items and stages available for play greatly from its predecessor, and with the addition of Special Melee, which allowed for unique matches like Giant Melee and Metal Melee among others, battles could be as chaotic or controlled as you wanted them to be. Super Smash Bros. Melee was a game enjoyed by casual gamers and more hard core competitive gamers alike. The game quickly formed a strong grassroots community of competitors that use specialized rulesets for a style of gameplay that is highly skill-based, and makes use of many hidden techniques and combos to optimize each characters' ability. This community continues to hold tournaments and bring in new followers even to this day, cementing the legacy of Super Smash Bros. Melee as one of the most important entries to the series, and perhaps one of the most important Nintendo games of all time.

In the lineage of Lethal Company-style roguelike collection action where you gather treasure and evade enemies. A work that greatly extended the point of defeating enemies to cash them in; especially in the early game the enemies' attacks are powerful, so it's very fun to think about how to evade or cash in enemies at low cost. In multiplayer the difficulty drops greatly, so it also has a festival-game side, giving different play experiences solo and in multiplayer.

Super Smash Bros. was still a bit rough around the edges on the Nintendo 64, but it was the game that both introduced and defined the platform fighter genre. Up to 4 players can battle in furious free-for-alls, where the more damage they take, the farther their characters get knocked back on each hit, until they're eventually knocked flying off the map. With 12 characters available, it doesn't have the massive roster of future installments, but the Nintendo staples like Mario, Link, Fox, and Samus are all here. Characters also feel a bit heavier akin to Melee, and stages are small, so the combat offers a different experience than later games in the series, limitations and all.

The critically-acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV is Square Enix's second attempt at an MMORPG after the success of Final Fantasy XI. Following its disastrous 2010 release, the game was brought offline after a world-ending in-game event before being released again as A Realm Reborn in 2013. Now, Final Fantasy XIV is considered one of the best MMORPGs of all time, with its second major story arc currently underway. The game is also well known for its generous free trial, which currently includes A Realm Reborn, the award-winning Heavensward expansion, Stormblood, and the critically-acclaimed Shadowbringers expansion. This trial lets players play the game for free with no restrictions on playtime up to Level 80, allowing them meet new people, as well as experience amazing writing, fantastic music, and a lovable cast of characters.

- First off, the story that's synonymous with FF14 is very interesting, moving me enough to think "please make it a movie," it was really great. While MMOs commonly have a custom of basically skipping the story and immediately grinding levels, I think putting effort into a story you can enjoy even solo is a wonderful idea, and precisely because of that the world is established, and the game atmosphere born from players enjoying it while understanding that world is very nice. - The battles are fun. Later MMOs have copied its battle gimmicks and systems many times, but the reason I still feel FF14 is good is that "because the gimmicks and enemy attacks are firmly linked to the story background, the immersion into combat is different." Rather than an impressive-graphics follow-up game that merely inherits FF14's gimmick ideas, the reason I feel FF14 is good is precisely that it sublimates them into gimmicks you can solve only because all players understand the enemy's background and world through a highly satisfying story, things like "this boss is a fire god, so wouldn't getting in the water be good?" or "this boss battle's field is set up as a special ship built specifically to defeat the boss lurking in this sea, so wouldn't activating the ship's device in time with the boss's attack timing be good?" - The BGM is good. I'd never been that interested in BGM, but around the time I entered the Stormblood arc in FF14's story, I was suddenly struck, the BGM is just plain good. Not only the tracks for each area but also those for dungeons and boss fights are all highly polished, and I experienced the amazingness of BGM for the first time. Not just BGM, but the attention to all the sound is tremendous; for example, walking sounds change depending on the floor material and shoe material, and you can even choose whether sound is picked up from the camera position or the character position. These many fine details connect to the feeling of not merely playing a game, but living in FF14's world as a character. - The amount of content. This may partly be content volume that comes precisely from a long-running game, but the breadth and variety of content is enormous, and every player is made to have an aptitude for some kind of content. That's why I think the player population keeps growing even after running this long. - Character design. Later games may have higher freedom or be prettier, but despite having so many people on a server, it delivers seamlessness with no lag while producing maximum-level graphics, I think. Also, the freedom of character creation is on the narrow side, but fine attention to detail can be firmly reflected as individuality. At a glance, people tend to think character creation is better the more freedom it has, but in FF14 that isn't necessarily so. That's because the current freedom is designed not to break FF14's world. Keeping a fantasy world while allowing character creation with various individual races (burly races, simple humans, cat people, rabbit people, tiny people, beast-folk), the current state is just right.

- The MMORPG successor to FF11 - A super-popular work with hundreds of thousands of players even now - It's an MMORPG, but it also has a story-game side where the main story boasts console-level quality or higher - The battle content is nicely divided by difficulty so that everyone from beginners to advanced players can enjoy it - Since it's a game that's continued for over 10 years, the content is enormous, and trying to do it all would turn you into an old man - For better or worse, all kinds of people are around, so experiencing a bit of a village society, whether that's good or bad, I don't know - There's a lot of trouble in interpersonal relationships, so be careful when you play - The game itself is very fun, but you feel a rut if you keep at it long; since the battle system is being overhauled from patch 8.0, veteran players coming back might find it fun

Pokemon Champions is the Pokemon Company's extremely successful attempt at making competitive Pokemon accessible to the widest possible audience. Due to being entirely free and accessible using a mobile device, it has broken down the two biggest entry barriers to the franchise since the series' debut: the cost of the console, and the cost of the game. It is a completely stripped down Pokemon experience, retaining only the strategic turn-based battles the franchise has been known for. This also means that it is entirely streamlined, allowing for almost zero friction between players and the experience.

A groundbreaking title that makes Pokémon battling easy. Until now, you had to boot up a game, open the battle screen, and go through the hassle of connecting online. It's also appealing that you no longer have to rush to enter the Hall of Fame just to battle, or pour huge amounts of time and resources into training. The one letdown is that, despite there being a story, there's almost nothing to it.

Dota 2, the grandfather of the modern MOBA genre, is one of the most enduring games of the past two decades. From a humble Warcraft III mod, the game's depth, team-work, strategizing, and mechanical skill-ceiling would catapult the game to a near legendary status for gamers who want to sink their teeth into one of the most diffcult, yet rewarding five versus five team games out there.

League of Legends: Wild Rift is the mobile version of League of Legends, Riot Games' 5v5 MOBA on PC. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) is created by Moontoon and features five-player teams competing to destroy each other's base while defending their own. Players select heroes with special powers/abilities, and teams must cooperate to win the match, which lasts ten to twenty minutes. The key to victory is defeating enemy heroes and controlling key targets such as the Lord and turrets. Different roles are key to a successful team: mages deal magical damage, marksmen provide steady damage, fighters apply pressure, assassins target key/core enemies, tanks create space, and supports boost team survival. Understanding these roles helps players contribute effectively and improve their chances of winning.

Survey voice

I enjoyed playing this game with my previous work friends much more than I did alone. We often used our lunch breaks to play a round or two, and the thrill of defending and winning before our break ended created some of my happiest moments with the game. While some of the character skins are appealing, they aren’t enticing enough for me to spend real money on them. Additionally, there isn't much of a storyline or music to enjoy, so my decision to play now mostly depends on my mood.

Dea / 20s / Female

What makes Mobile Legends special for me is how easy it is to jump into a match and have fun, whether playing solo or with friends.
