It's a work that brilliantly fuses the sandbox genre with Pokémon. The Pokémon are producers of crafting materials, also serve as the workbench, and even become consumers of the finished items, so I felt the game's overall core loop is extremely well done. Also, there's almost no strong pressure from survival or combat, and the design makes you feel the player's ingenuity and growth through building, so it delivers a genuinely laid-back, relaxing play experience. On top of that, each Pokémon has a rich variety of expressions and animations, and each one expresses its own personality and preferences through its actions. As a result, rather than just learning about their traits from Pokédex entries, an "ecosystem" is created where you feel them as beings actually living there, which is another big appeal of this game.

Diana / 20s / Female

This is my actual first Pokemon game despite knowing the franchise for a long time. We were never really able to afford many consoles growing up, so having a cozy Pokemon game as my entry really warms my heart. I haven't progressed much into the story because I really just want to savor it and not speedrun it.

I've always loved sandbox games like Pokopia and it gave me a break from my hyperfixation then. I also love that I got to know a lot of Pokemon better because I was able to speak to them! I found new appreciation for Pokemon that I didn't really like then like Trubbish!

I would say this is currently the premier NS2 game I would recommend for anyone with a Switch 2 to play. While a game like Pokopia is fun, I could argue its fairly similar, and is just a better Animal Crossing. Donkey Kong Bananza is truly a game that is unlike any other game I've ever seen or played before. It's super unique and also really fun to just bash through everything. It's also extremely satisfying to complete, and its DLC is often forgotten about releasing so far from its base game but the introduction of a roguelite element is also a really fun twist to test your skills. Wonderful game!

Kevin

The stages have rich, distinct character, and exploring is fun the whole way through. The bonus stages are enjoyable and reminded me of the bonus stages in Donkey Kong Country. Personally I wasn't a big fan of the stage-destroying gimmick, but I'm glad it's there. The final boss and the ending are superb. I want a sequel!

Pokemon Champions is the Pokemon Company's extremely successful attempt at making competitive Pokemon accessible to the widest possible audience. Due to being entirely free and accessible using a mobile device, it has broken down the two biggest entry barriers to the franchise since the series' debut: the cost of the console, and the cost of the game. It is a completely stripped down Pokemon experience, retaining only the strategic turn-based battles the franchise has been known for. This also means that it is entirely streamlined, allowing for almost zero friction between players and the experience.

A groundbreaking title that makes Pokémon battling easy. Until now, you had to boot up a game, open the battle screen, and go through the hassle of connecting online. It's also appealing that you no longer have to rush to enter the Hall of Fame just to battle, or pour huge amounts of time and resources into training. The one letdown is that, despite there being a story, there's almost nothing to it.

Cruise across the land in Mario Kart World, which blends the scale and scope of massive open-world maps with the high-speed propulsiveness of classic Mario Kart racing gameplay. All of the game's courses are situated as parts of this open world, and exploring them in free roam is a joy. Traditional Grand Prix tours and single races now feature up to 24 players battling for first place across interconnected race courses, with mini qualifiers linking the "main" races of each tour, communicating the notion of a single unified world to race through. Many classic gadgets and power-ups return as well, making the game a capable successor to Mario Kart 8.

Monster Hunter Stories 3 is the third Stories spinoff title of the Monster Hunter franchise that features turn-based combat played in a rock paper scissors format. It's an RPG with a lot of battles and boss fights, but the battle system is fun and never gets old. There are even puzzle-like boss fights, so battles you thought you'd completely mastered feel fresh again. It's properly challenging even for RPG veterans. The high degree of freedom in customizing monsters is fun, but that also has the downside of watering down each monster's individual traits.
