Bloodborne is an action RPG by the beloved developers of Dark Souls, FromSoftware. In this long-hyped new IP, shields were ditched for an even faster, riskier and more feral combat where parrying was almost required and aggression was key. The dark fantasy theme takes a Victorian aesthetic with a heaping serving of eldritch horror.

I remember seeing this game for the first time and not liking it but I decided to give it a shot because I love the gothic aesthetic. I ended up liking it so much that it became my go-to game for blowing off steam. As corny as it sounds, Bloodborne was there for me when I was frustrated and depressed in university. Game is starting to show its age, hence the 4/5 graphics rating, but I still love it to bits.

Monster Hunter World is the fifth mainline installment in the monster hunter series. It remains true to its franchise appeal of actively hunting and fighting monsters through various weapon types with their own levels of complexity. The world built for Monster Hunter World allows its players to use the environment to their advantage, whether to trap monsters through vines, or drop a boulder to deal massive amounts of damage is a welcome strategy. With its gameplay elements, it shows its unique playstyle of hunting with a healthy mix of action, making it perfect for solo or cooperative play.

A work that became my gateway to getting hooked on online games. I'd always liked the Monster Hunter series and had played since "Monster Hunter Portable 2nd," but in this game I interacted with other players, joined a circle, and started playing with friends almost every day. It's a deeply memorable work that gave me a new gaming experience not just of playing a game, but through connections with people. In particular, "Extreme Behemoth" remains strongly impressed on me as one of the toughest, hardest monsters in Monster Hunter history. Of course there was challenging it in coordination with friends, but the once-in-a-lifetime experience of hunting together with players I met in random multiplayer was also a big appeal. Also, I took on solo hunts, which were extremely difficult at the time, and I still can't forget the sense of accomplishment when I finally defeated it after trial and error. It's a special work to me that taught me not just the fun of hunting, but the joy of community and cooperative play unique to online games.

オンラインゲームに夢中になるきっかけとなった作品です。もともとモンハンシリーズは好きで、『モンスターハンターポータブル 2nd』からプレイしていましたが、本作では他のプレイヤーと交流し、サークルに参加して毎日のようにフレンドと遊ぶようになりました。単にゲームを遊ぶだけでなく、人とのつながりを通じた新たなゲーム体験を与えてくれた思い出深い作品です。中でも「極ベヒーモス」は、モンハン史に残る屈指の高難度モンスターとして強く印象に残っています。フレンドと連携して挑戦するのはもちろん、野良マルチで出会ったプレイヤーたちと協力して狩猟する一期一会の体験も大きな魅力でした。また、当時は非常に難易度が高かったソロ討伐にも挑戦し、試行錯誤の末に討伐できた時の達成感は今でも忘れられません。狩猟の面白さだけでなく、オンラインゲームならではのコミュニティや協力プレイの楽しさを教えてくれた、私にとって特別な作品です。

Dark Souls III is the somber conclusion to the Dark Souls trilogy, taking place in the ruined kingdom of Lothric where the lands seem to converge as the universe itself continues the slow march into the next age. You take control of an Unkindled, the Ashen One, who once failed to link the First Flame in the past. Now tasked to bring back the runaway Lords of Cinder, you'll struggle against powerful bosses and even some familiar faces all to hopefully keep the First Flame lit and stave off the invevitable Age of Dark.

A supreme work as an action RPG. The boss fights in particular are extremely well crafted, with an appeal that makes you want to challenge fierce enemies over and over. On the other hand, its difficulty is very high, and the main game's final boss, the "Soul of Cinder," made me struggle for about three hours. After racking up defeat after defeat while searching for a strategy, the sense of accomplishment when I finally won was exceptional. It's a work that gave me the best boss-fight experience, but I won't forget the grudge of being held up for three hours. Unforgivable.

The story and music are both the best. Despite being a heavy story, it's not designed to just make you read endless text; it's designed to draw you in with the world, dialogue, and music. It's enjoyable on its own, but since it's part of a series, I'd recommend the past works too, a masterpiece. However, since it also has what's commonly called "Yoko Taro style" salvation-less storytelling, people who are mentally fragile might not be able to handle it. Also, since it's more action-heavy than the previous works, it's hard to recommend to people who aren't used to games...

Final Fantasy VII Remake serves to welcome new players into the world of FF7, while also catering to lovers of the original PS1 classic. It retains aspects of the nostalgic turn-based combat from the original game while also spicing it up for those who prefer a much faster, action-oriented playstyle. It expands on aspects that were left unexplored before in the story, giving the player lots of freedom to explore the city of Midgar as the city comes to life with stunning quality.

I am a HUGE Persona fan, and this game was really good. The HUD and animations set the bar for turn-based games incredibly high. You can really feel the amount of effort put into the combat and new mechanics like the “Showtime”. The story was interesting and dark, although the twist of Akechi being the traitor was pretty easy to figure out. Unlike Adachi in Persona 4, I never figured that one out until I actually took the time to analyze everything.

I am a really big Monster Hunter fan, so I was really excited to play this again after it was a Nintendo exclusive for such a long time following the PSP. I really enjoyed the combat and how you have to adapt your playstyle depending on the monsters you hunt. I never got tired of hunting different monsters throughout my entire playthrough, which is why I ended up 100% completing the game on both PS4 and PC.

Monster Hunter returned to PlayStation after a long time; grinding Kulve Taroth endlessly with a friend is a good memory. (He ultimately never got his hands on the spread Heavy Bowgun he wanted most before Iceborne arrived.)

Much like Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Reload, Persona 5 Royal is the updated and definitive version of the base game. It fully utilizes the school year, giving you more time to explore its new features, such as the additional storyline that takes place after the main story and the new Confidants introduced in this version. The Palaces have also been expanded. While they still retain most of their original layouts, the addition of Will Seeds not only makes dungeon exploration more fulfilling but also gives you a greater sense of completion as you collect them.

The Persona series everyone loves. As someone who'd played Persona 5, I thought "do I really have to do that long story again," but since Persona 5 was already complete, I was able to get through it. This game in particular has wonderful music, a work where I thought it'd be worth buying just for the music.

I loved the God of War trilogy in the Greek Mythology and it showed me Kratos in his best and worst days while going rip and tear over his enemies shown in the action-packed gameplay. The new God of War in the Norse Mythology is significantly differently and it takes on a more adventure route while focusing more on the story that makes me appreciate him as a character also shown through gameplay. Ludonarrative is very important to me when it comes to games and everything about God of War (2018) is that taken to a higher level.

Even viewed as an open-world game, it has tremendous volume; the map is vast and there are many of them, each with distinct character and beautifully expressed, wonderful. Bosses are scattered across the vast map, so there's the fun of exploration. There are also many weapons the player can use, and your approach changes depending on how you allocate stats, and your fighting style changes further with Ashes of War, so even the same boss can be fought in various ways, giving the fun of playing over and over.

Detroit: Become Human is a choose your own ending type of game that features perspectives from three distinct Android models. Your actions have their own paths and consequences and the endings depend on the summation of all your choices so far. This game is that cozy bedtime game you are looking for, no combat, no boss battles, just pure cinema at its finest.

I loved the gameplay mechanics of this game a lot, simple but very engaging. I liked how each chapter and each character's decision affects the next chapter and the ending rather than just one factor. I also really liked how each chapter has its own multiple branches that can lead to different outcomes. 4/5 only for the story since it didn't feel like it was wrapped up very well at the end, but I guess that's something the developers left open for a possible sequel.

I hate hate hate open world games. Most of them feel like they don't respect your time. Collect 100 of these pointless things. Travel from point a to point b to point c 20 times. You know how long it takes to go from point a to point b? Here's an npc to escort and you have to match their very slow pace. The abilities you have gained? Here's a section where you can't use any of them for an hour. Here's a map with 5000 pins of pointless things to do. Some of them can give you a costume that does nothing or 2 exp out of the 5000 you need to level up. Witcher 3 famously starts with a side quest where you need to retrieve someone's pan. People found it endearing. I found it offensive. I hate open world games so much. But Insomniac's Spider-Man will always get credit from me for creating a traversal mechanic in an open world game that is so much fun, you forget that there's a fast travel mechanic.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is GTA with Cowboys. The "2" in the name is sort of a misnomer kind of how Final Fantasy games are all not related. Red Dead Redemption 2 is more of a prequel to the first game. It's closer to a massive 100 hour cowboy simulator with an absurd amount of attention to detail. This ranges from interactions, dialogue, even in-game physics and horse poop. This is a masterclass by Rockstar in major emotional damage, immersive gunplay with cowboy weapons, and horsing around.

The Last of Us Part 2 is a sequel, both narratively and mechanically, to The Last of Us. It keeps the same third-person action formula but adds small improvements that are greater than the sum of their parts. Environments are bigger and more interactive, enemies are smarter and more reactive, and more gameplay styles are allowed. And the combination of all these changes increases the ways combat encounters can be dealt with. As with the first game, The Last of Us Part 2 is still primarily a character-focused narrative game. While the first game asked us how far we're willing to go for the ones we love, the second game builds on this and asks how far is too far.

In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, you take on the role of Geralt of Rivia, a Witcher who is on a quest to find his adopted daughter, Ciri. Throughout your journey, you'll encounter side quests filled with morally complex choices and battle a variety of monsters, ranging from mutated beasts to god-like entities. You also have the option to play Gwent, a highly addictive card mini-game created specifically for the game. While The Witcher 3 is a sequel, it is not necessary to play the previous games to fully enjoy this choice-driven and critically acclaimed RPG!

I really loved that the signs and the oil weaknesses were brought over as a battle mechanic in the game. I like the fact that as a player I need to be mindful of which signs and oils to use for exploiting weaknesses, I really felt like a Witcher. I love how there's no good or bad endings with the quests, having to choose which is the lesser evil made me ponder on the choices of this game a lot. 4/5 only on gameplay because of the side quests that breaks the meta, like Geralt is in a hurry to find Ciri but instead he spends time going around doing weird menial tasks. If the side quests were more pressing and felt like Geralt really has to be bothered to do them and because it's on his way, I'd probably rate gameplay a 100%. There are some side quests that can be done after completing the story, but the rewards aren't that valuable at that point.

Dragon Quest XI, like all its predecessors in the mainline series, is a turn-based JRPG that stays true to its roots. You play as the Luminary, a hero prophesized to save Erdrea from calamity. The Luminary is fated to come across a cast of colorful characters each with their own motivations as you journey across the world of Erdrea and help people you come across. What keeps it distinct from other JRPGs are the charmingly timeless character designs from the late Akira Toriyama, well-known for Dragon Ball. This game is perfect for anyone who wants something that feels nostalgic and familiar, or wants to give the Dragon Quest series a try for the first time.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice in FromSoftware's twist to the Dark Souls Formula they popularized. Unlike its older games, Sekiro emphasizes split-second swordsmaship through timed deflects. Momentum is also key as the game's posture system encourages players to keep the pressure on enemies in ways Dark Souls and Bloodborne have never done before. Despite the innovative mechanics, Sekiro still retains the atmosphere and rewarding difficulty the were renown for. The game also has a setting unique to FromSoftware titles. It is only fitting that Japanese developer FromSoftware would tackle a Japanese Period piece. Intense, Fast Paced, but fair. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice proves that FromSoftware can innovate beyond Dark Souls

- A die-and-retry game different again from Dark Souls - First off, you're surprised that the die-and-retry skills you cultivated in Dark Souls don't work - There's no guarding, but the "deflect" system where you time it to the enemy's attacks is very fun but hard - Besides bosses, there are mini-bosses, and they're genuinely strong - Even the regular enemies are plenty strong and you'll die easily - A midgame boss that's a peak is extremely strong and you'll nearly break, but challenging it many times, you get used to it and can beat it, and you start feeling a rush - There are many strong bosses, making it rewarding

It has an incredibly addicting progression system where grinding feels fulfilling as you want to collect all the Digivolutions of your digimon. The "monsters" are all unique and fun to discover with the Mega Stages being incredibly appealing to many different sensibilities. There's a favorite digimon for everyone as they can really look like anything. The combat is fun and actually difficult towards the endgame where a lot of hardcore fans will find fun in solving. It is a great entry point to get into the Digimon Story franchise.
