This is an off-meta build that turns Meganium into a semi-damage dealer.
| Item | Explanation |
|---|---|
Rescue Hood
|
Rescue Hood improves Meganium's durability via increased defenses and strengthens the amount of healing it does to its allies with Petal Blizzard. |
Exp. Share
|
Exp. Share provides Meganium with HP and movement speed, and improves leveling for itself and its allies in the early game. |
Buddy Barrier
|
Buddy Barrier increases Meganium’s HP and grants a shield to both itself and an ally whenever it uses its Unite Move, which synergizes well with how quickly its Unite Move charges. |
Vanguard Bell
|
Vanguard Bell gives Meganium more HP and the ability to heal itself whenever it inflicts a hindrance on opponents, which works nicely with Grass Knot. |
Resonant Guard
|
Resonant Guard improves Meganium's HP and HP recovery, and gives it the ability to generate shields for itself and its allies when it deals damage to opponents. |
Wise Glasses
|
Wise Glasses gives Meganium a large Sp. Atk. boost thanks to its percentage-based bonus. |
Slick Spoon
|
Slick Spoon provides Meganium with HP, more Sp. Atk., and the ability to ignore a portion of its target's Sp.Def., leading to more damage. |
Drive Lens
|
Drive Lens further improves Meganium's Sp. Atk. whenever it knocks out opponents or gets an assist. It also provides a bit of cooldown reduction. |
Held Item Tier List: Best Items to Equip
| Item | Explanation |
|---|---|
Eject Button
|
Eject Button gives Meganium a repositioning tool for offensive and defensive situations. |
X Speed
|
X Speed improves Meganium's mobility via increased movement speed and a temporary immunity from slows. |
Meganium can learn both its second move and Unite Move at level 7, giving it an early power spike. Focus on reaching level 7 at the start of the match to take advantage of the early power spike then start to get aggressive from there.
| Move | Boosted Effects |
|---|---|
Grass Knot
|
The vines grow thicker. |
Petal Blizzard
|
The blizzard's area of effect is increased, and the petals remain for a set amount of time. |
Meganium's strength comes mainly from Full Bloom Aroma's unique mechanics and effects, so playing around it is the Pokemon's core gameplay.
Unite Move's unique mechanic is that it charges whenever Meganium hits opponents with a move, allowing it to be used more frequently. It can also boost the effects of Meganium's other moves, making them stronger during fights.
Full Bloom Aroma: Meganium Move Effect and Cooldown
Full Bloom Aroma deals damage to enemies around Meganium and decreases their damage. When using the move, stay close to enemies to maximize the move's damage and debuff. This will be the key to playing Meganium effectively.
Since Petal Blizzard deals damage and slows enemies, while also healing allies, you'd generally want to use it on allies and enemies to fully utilize the move. This is especially effective on melee allies since they have to get close to their targets to deal damage, making it easy for you to hit both the ally and the enemy with Petal Blizzard.
Petal Blizzard: Meganium Move Effect and Cooldown
When Grass Knot hits an opponent, the vines will also spread around it and immobilize other nearby opponents. This effect is great against enemies that are grouped closely together, allowing you to potentially set up combos for your allies.
Grass Knot: Meganium Move Effect and Cooldown
| Bloom Burst Combo | |
|---|---|
| Start the combo with Unite Move, and while it's active, keep using Grass Knot and Petal Blizzard to quickly charge it. | |
| Matchup Notes | ||
|---|---|---|
| 1. The chart is based on our own experience playing Meganium. 2. Pokemon within each tier are unordered 3. Any Pokemon not shown here are still under investigation. |
||
Since Meganium relies heavily on hitting opponents with its moves, especially with its Unite Move, Pokemon with strong disabling moves, such as stun, sleep, and freeze, can prevent Meganium from ever using its moves. If the Pokemon has both disabling moves and a high burst damage, that'll be a huge bonus as well.
| Pokemon | Explanation |
|---|---|
Darkrai
|
Rating: ★★★★★ • Has high burst damage and can put Meganium to sleep using Dark Void and Nasty Plot. • Can isolate and quickly knock out Meganium in Worst Nightmare. |
Blastoise
|
Rating: ★★★★ • Can keep Meganium stunned using Surf, Hydro Pump, and Hydro Typhoon. |
Alolan Ninetales
|
Rating: ★★★★ • Can freeze and burst down Meganium with Avalance, Blizzard, and Snow Globe. |
Landing Petal Blizzard and Grass Knot consistently allows Meganium quickly charge its Full Bloom Aroma and reuse it, giving the Pokemon the upper hand over these Pokemon.
| Ranged, Fragile Pokemon with High Damage |
|---|
| How to Beat |
|
• These Pokemon prefer to keep their distance from opponents when fighting. They also have high damage potential that can be dangerous for Meganium. • Use Grass Knot to immobilize them then go in for the knock out with Full Bloom Aroma and Petal Blizzard. |
| Brawlers/Combo-heavy Pokemon |
|---|
| How to Beat |
|
• These Pokemon excel in close combat and rely mostly on their attacks or combos to deal damage. They are also durable enough to tank Meganium's damage. • Use Unite Move when they get close to reduce their damage. • Heal through their damage with Petal Blizzard. • Immobilize them with Grass Knot. |
| Highly Durable Pokemon |
|---|
| How to Beat |
|
• These Pokemon are extremely durable, making it hard for the Pokemon to take them out alone. With that, it's best to group up with allies to bring them down with the help of Meganium. • Immobilize them with Grass Knot and slow them using Petal Blizzard. |
| Support Pokemon |
|---|
| How to Beat |
|
• Much like Meganium, these Pokemon usually stick with their allies and rarely venture alone. Although they themselves pose no threat to Meganium, their support capabilities makes them valuable during fights. • Take advantage of Meganium's superior damage to take them out quickly by consistently hitting Grass Knot, Petal Blizzard, and Full Bloom Aroma. |
