Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic – the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil is a remastered release of the 2002 bullet hell shoot-'em-up from series creator ZUN and Shanghai Alice under the publisher Alliance Arts. Players can control either shrine maiden Reimu Hakurei or magician Marisa Kirisame as they weave through dense curtains of bullets across a vertical-scrolling 2D stage layout to resolve the mysterious Scarlet Mist Incident threatening Gensokyou.
The New Classic edition features upscaled high-resolution graphics and a fully rearranged soundtrack by ZUN himself, alongside a newly added unlimited lives mode for those who want to experience the game without the pressure of losing progress. A Classic mode that recreates the 2002 experience is also available, in favor of players who want the original experience.
