Diablo 5 Overview
Diablo 5 is an upcoming action RPG developed by Blizzard Entertainment, serving as the fifth mainline entry in a franchise that first launched in 1996 and has drawn more than 130 million players across its four prior games. The story is set roughly 100 years after the events of Diablo 4, marking the first mainline entry set entirely in a post-apocalyptic version of Sanctuary: Diablo, the series' Lord of Terror, has already conquered the world and rules from Westmarch, now an outpost of Hell. Players take on the role of the Heir to Westmarch, a protagonist with an as-yet-unexplained connection to Diablo himself.
According to game director Joe Shely, the game reverses the series' usual structure of stopping an invasion before it happens, instead placing players in the aftermath of Diablo's victory. A follow-up panel at BlizzCon confirmed the Demon Hunter and Monk as returning classes, alongside a new class called the Plague Knight, with Blizzard stating more classes will be revealed ahead of launch. A traveling caravan has also been described as replacing the series' traditional safe-hub towns, though full details on that system haven't been shared yet.
Diablo 4 will continue receiving support in the meantime: Blizzard confirmed an Amazon class pack coming to Diablo 4 in 2027, along with a Diablo 4 Collection release for Nintendo Switch 2, even as the studio confirmed no further story expansions are currently planned for Diablo IV itself.
