The game features an original story from series author Hyūganatsu and follows the series’ main protagonist, Maomao, as she investigates a string of mysteries and conspiracies.
Players will investigate the Five Mysteries in the rear palace and the Five Curses affecting the surrounding town and capital. Maomao can explore locations, interview witnesses, gather clues, organize information, and make deductions to uncover the truth behind the mysterious "imperial younger brother."
Maomao can also gather medicinal ingredients and craft various medicines, which she can use as evidence or to help characters during her investigations.
