The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake adds the Hall of Fallen Heroes, a new area where players can rematch bosses in a timed challenge. Find out more about the new mode below and other information from the recent hands-on preview.
The Hall of Fallen Foes Gives Hyrule’s Bosses A Second Round
Timed Boss Challenges Encourage Efficiency
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s monsters are getting their own exhibition hall, giving players a new space to examine and rematch against the game's enemies. As shown in Nintendo’s newest overview trailer, released on October 14, 2026, the Switch 2 remake features the Hall of Fallen Foes.
This hidden location displays statues of enemies Link defeated throughout his adventure. Players can examine these statues for descriptions and information on where the creatures appear, but the main draw is the chance to challenge the game's bosses again.
King Dodongo demonstrates the feature in the video, with his entry offering a rematch button, a record of the player’s completion time, and an in-game timer overlaid during the battle. The trailer also offers glimpses of returning bosses, including Gohma, Phantom Ganon, Volvagia, and Twinrova.
Ocarina of Time 3D already offered a similar Boss Challenge mode, unlocked after clearing the Forest Temple and accessed by interacting with Link’s bed in Kokiri Forest to relive previous boss battles. These rematches were timed, and defeating all eight available bosses unlocked a gauntlet that challenged players to fight in succession. Other games in the franchise also featured timed boss challenges: Skyward Sword’s Thunder Dragon Lightning Round tracked boss clear times. At the same time, Echoes of Wisdom’s Slumber Dojo offered time-limited boss gauntlets and extra rewards for faster clears.
Hands-on Previews Reveal New Twists on a Familiar Hyrule
Ocarina of Time’s remake won’t be a 1:1 recreation of the original, with familiar environments, puzzles, and combat getting updates alongside its extensive visual overhaul. In our previous breakdown, we saw subtle changes like a bigger starting wallet, a possible fifth empty bottle slot, and enemies appearing in areas where they were originally absent.
Recently, Nintendo invited media outlets to play selected sections of the remake ahead of its release. Outlets report the preview ran roughly two hours and covered Kokiri Forest, the Great Deku Tree, Hyrule Field, Castle Town, and Adult Link’s Forest Temple. Those sessions revealed further changes in the remake, such as the Kokiri Sword chest, previously tucked into a corner of the boulder maze, now sitting on an elevated central platform players must jump to reach, as reported by IGN. In a separate breakdown, the site says the Forest Temple room now features guardrails that prevent Link from jumping onto a block before it rises toward the ceiling.

Nintendo Life reported that players can now summon a Business Scrub merchant inside dungeons using a Business Scrub Seed, which remains if they buy nothing. The Forest Temple also features a new lift in its block-pushing room, while the Poe picture puzzle no longer has a time limit. Additionally, jump attacks now involve a manual leap followed by a mid-air sword strike, instead of the previous Z-targeting and dedicated button to do the attack.
According to VGC, Hyrule's residents now have expanded dialogue and new interactions. In Kokiri Forest, a villager draws pictures of rupees and teaches a song that explains their value, while Castle Town’s bearded man now helps Link locate Talon by sensing other bearded people. Townspeople also display short dialogue bubbles as Link walks past, letting players catch their remarks without stopping to initiate a conversation.

These changes should freshen up Ocarina of Time for returning players, while new content like the Hall of Fallen Foes offers something extra for veterans who already know the 1998 original Hyrule by heart. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake releases exclusively on Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. Fans can now pre-order two new exclusive Ocarina of Time remake amiibos: Young Link and Young Zelda.
