Agumon and Gabumon Enter the Fight
AFK Journey announced a crossover with Digimon Adventure on August 18, according to a post on their official Twitter account. The collaboration brings Taichi Yagami and Agumon alongside Yamato Ishida and Gabumon to Esperia.
Digivolving appears to be an upcoming gameplay mechanic, as the video showcased Agumon and Garumon transforming into WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, respectively. The trailer teased gameplay footage of the latter Digivolving mid-combat before unleashing its iconic Metal Wolf Claw attack, spewing cold air and freezing the enemies.
Digimon Marks the Fourth Major Crossover
AFK Journey’s Digimon collaboration marks the game’s fourth major crossover after previously partnering with Fairy Tail and Delicious in Dungeon last year, bringing Natsu, Lucy, Laios, and Marcille alongside a new cooking system to Esperia. In May, AFK Journey partnered with Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and introduced Frieren and Himmel.
The Digimon collaboration has already brought curious fans towards the game. Some commenters on Twitter have said that they would try the game just for Digimon, with some disgruntled fans mentioning their bad experiences from another idle game, Digimon UP.
However, the reception hasn’t been unanimously positive. Under the AFK Journey x Digimon Adventure crossover trailer, many commenters called the crossover random and unexpected. Fans of the game were expecting crossovers to follow the pattern of trending anime like Jujutsu Kaisen or Chainsaw Man. Others are excited to see their favorite franchise represented, especially those who selected Digimon in a previous survey, asking fans what collaborations they would like to see.
