Lao-Shan Lung is a returning Elder Dragon for the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion, scheduled for release in 2027. See an overview of Lao-Shan Lung, what Lao-Shan Lung is running from, as well as its release date and elemental weakness.
Lao-Shan Lung Overview
Elder Dragon Classification
Lao-Shan Lung is a gigantic Elder Dragon that debuted in the very first Monster Hunter title. Its most recent appearance was in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate.
It was the first “siege-type” quest, establishing the blueprint for later giant hunts such as Shen Gaoren (Monster Hunter 2), Jhen Mohran (Monster Hunter 3), Zorah Magdaros (MH: World), and Kulve Taroth (MH: World).
Siege Mechanics and Objectives
In the previous games, the hunt for Lao-Shan Lung takes place across a linear map where it slowly marches along a fixed path. Hunters must use field artillery like cannons, ballistae, and the Dragonator to stall its advance and prevent the fortress barricade from being destroyed.
What Is Lao-Shan Lung Running From?
Running From Fatalis
In the original Monster Hunter, it is implied that Lao-Shan Lung is likely fleeing from Fatalis, a legendary Elder Dragon considered so overwhelmingly strong that even a dragon of Lao-Shan Lung's magnitude will run away in terror.
Lao-Shan Lung Release Date
Returns in the Ascendance Expansion
Lao-Shan Lung is officially making its long-awaited return in the Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion. It is slated for release in 2027, taking hunters to the Skybound Eyrie and introducing new challenges with Master Rank.
MH Wilds: Ascendance Release Date and Info
Lao-Shan Lung Weakness
Weak Against Dragon Element
Lao-Shan Lung is weak against the Dragon element, with the best spots to target being its belly, back, and the mouth. Note that these are based on the previous games and may change on the expansion's release.
