Mii Customization and Gender Preferences
The Tomodachi Life experience revolves around social and life simulation. Players will be able to create and interact with characters called Miis, who have their own unique personalities and traits based on the player’s choices. These Miis will then settle in the game’s lush tropical island and live out their lives there.
In a series first, players can set the Miis’ dating preferences, as well as choose to make them nonbinary. Players can also set up a family tree to establish which and how Miis are related to each other and avoid awkward situations like being romantically intertwined.
Mii Social Interactions
Miis can perform a range of social interactions, such as visiting other Miis and establishing connections, perhaps even eventually falling in love and creating a family. They can also get into conflicts with other Miis or engage in other social events.
Sometimes, they will also ask the player for advice concerning their problems with relationships or connections with the other islanders, to which the player can directly influence their course of action. As the game is based on real-time, Miis will act differently based on the time of day.
Caretaking and Home Furnishing
Players will then keep the Miis happy and well fed by feeding them food, dressing them up with costumes, and making their homestead dazzling and beautiful with different furniture sets.
Island Facilities
The island will initially be bare, with only a few buildings to purchase new items in, but more places, such as the Amusement Park or the Photo Studio, may be unlocked depending on the Miis and the player’s progress.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Story Plot
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream does not have a set story, but players can create and customize their own Mii characters and watch them interact with other Miis and live out their lives on this fun and whimsical little island. They can make friends, fall in love, marry one another, and even make a family. They can also get caught in between conflicts and arguments, should their unique personalities clash.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Setting
Set on an expanded tropical archipelago, the world of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream centers around a modernized Mii Apartments complex with customizable communal lounges. The island is divided into vibrant districts, ranging from the high-end shops of Neon Central to the nature-filled Serenity Woods. Interactive landmarks like the Glimmer Pier, Open-Air Cinema, and Hot Springs serve as the primary backdrops for the series' signature quirky social events and randomized Mii dramas.
The environment operates on a real-time clock, influencing seasonal changes and daily rotations at the Fresh Market and Where & Wear boutiques. Between the Town Hall’s administrative updates and the Island Concert Hall’s performances, the setting functions as a living resort-style sandbox. Every corner of the island is designed to reflect the unique personalities and strange dreams of your Miis as they build lives and relationships together.

Hugh Morris
Hugh Morris is a jester-themed Mii and cult icon
from the North American Living the Dream Direct. A pun on the word "humorous," he serves as the island’s resident jokester and became a viral sensation after successfully managing a chaotic love square
involving multiple islanders.
With his signature red and purple jester outfit and Outgoing Entertainer personality, he is widely regarded by fans as a must-have resident for any new island.
Dr. Winters
Dr. Winters is the island’s primary medical professional, characterized by her mature appearance, grey-streaked hair, and signature white lab coat. She primarily oversees the Island Clinic, where she demonstrates the new "Work Life" feature that allows Miis to hold specific vocational roles.
Angie
Angie is a central promotional Mii in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, recognized for her vibrant aesthetic and role in showcasing the game’s expanded social features. Her character is typically assigned an Easygoing or Social Butterfly personality type, making her a frequent catalyst for group hangouts and island events.
