FF7 Revelation Director Addresses Fortnite Collab Speculation
Fortnite Rumors Shut Down
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi posted a clarification on X (Twitter) debunking claims of a Fortnite collaboration, after a Fortnite fan account stated a Final Fantasy x Fortnite crossover was "likely happening." Alongside confirming the previously known Street Fighter 6 crossover, Hamaguchi rebutted, "there is nothing I can share that would raise expectations at this time", regarding Fortnite.
The Fortnite mention traces back to recent interviews on VICE and IGN, where Hamaguchi discussed how the team approached Revelation's Highwind-based exploration. He noted that the traversal idea of parachuting from the airship into open-world areas was partly shaped by how familiar players already are with such, citing Fortnite as a point for inspiration.
Responses to Hamaguchi's post have been mixed. Some fans felt that his response still felt somewhat vague since they’re "exploring collaborations with a variety of different IPs," thus not entirely ruling out its possibility. Others saw the appeal of the concept itself, thinking about which Final Fantasy characters might work well in Fortnite. Overall, players do have an interest in such a crossover, but Hamaguchi’s statement verifies this isn’t going to happen anytime soon.
In the meantime, fans can still look forward to the confirmed Street Fighter 6 collab. Tifa is joining the fighting game's Year 4 roster in early 2027, bringing her unique closed combat-based fighting style to the game.
