Professor Layton and the New World of Steam Gameplay
New World of Steam will follow a linear story campaign revolving around a case of a missing heiress and a mysterious alleged ghost of a dead gunslinger, where solving a series of puzzles will advance the plot further.
Brainteaser Puzzles
Puzzles in New World of Steam, like previous Professor Layton entries, will prompt players with a question or riddle, usually related to what is happening in the main campaign, and have players solve them. These brainteasers range from connecting wires by drawing on-screen to arranging a train's tracks like a puzzle.
City Exploration
While controlling Professor Layton and Luke, players can navigate across the city of Steam Bison by clicking in a certain direction to hop to another area. Players can interact with the environment and converse with people to gather information for the case.

Set one year after the events of Unwound Future, Professor Hershel Layton, the brilliant archeologist and puzzle solver, is called by his former protégé, Luke Triton, to come to the city of Steam Bison in America. A mysterious incident disrupts the bustling city, with the specter of a dead gunslinger stalking the city streets and a missing heiress of a renowned family. Layton and Luke's journey leads them through a series of complex riddles and mysteries that threaten the future of Steam Bison itself.

The game is set in Steam Bison, a fictional city in America marked by its Victorian, steam-powered landscape and technological marvels that far surpass those of London.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam Characters
Professor Hershel Layton
The main character, Professor Layton, is a highly respected archaeology professor at Gressenheller University. As an expert in riddles, he has built a career solving mysteries worldwide, often alongside his apprentice Luke. Since Luke moved to America, Layton has operated alone, but the events in Steam Bison bring the two back together for another adventure.
Luke Triton
Luke, once Professor Layton’s apprentice, has been living in America since the events of the previous game and has grown a reputation as a fully-fledged detective. Now reunited with his mentor, Luke plays a central role in helping to solve the mysteries surrounding Steam Bison.
Gunman King Joe
Gunman King Joe is allegedly a dead gunslinger who started appearing in Steam Bison, delivering cryptic messages. His spectral presence is tied to the mysterious incident at the heart of Steam Bison.
