Open-World RPG Developed in Unreal Engine 5

HoYoverse has reportedly received copyright approval in China for the software powering their next open-world RPG, Varsapura. With intellectual property rights cleared for the world’s second biggest gaming market, fans on social media speculate that development for Varsapura will now proceed at full speed.
According to a news report on the Chinese media site Sohu.com, miHoYo's copyrights for Varsapura’s V0.1 game software, filed earlier this year, were finally approved on June 15, 2026. This means that the game’s downloadable software, consisting of UE5 engine technology blended with miHoYo’s own in-house assets, is now the intellectual property of miHoYo within China. Varsapura is officially registered under the Chinese name "雨雾之都" (Rain and Mist City).

Gamersky, one of China’s largest video game media outlets, confirmed in January 2026 that HoYoverse had submitted more than 20 trademarks for Varsapura in China. This follows filings for Varsapura-related trademarks in 2025 across regions such as the United States, Canada, Japan, and Thailand, as confirmed by TMview, the international trademark database developed by the EU Intellectual Property Office.

Varsapura gets its name from the Sanskrit words for rain (varṣā) and town (pura), and its modern city setting is partly inspired by Singapore. Initially revealed with a 31-minute gameplay trailer in November 2025, Varsapura takes players into the SEAL organization, which deals with monsters and paranormal threats.

The game garnered widespread attention for being HoYoverse’s first game to be developed in Unreal Engine 5. The studio has yet to confirm what platforms the game will release on. Historically, HoYoverse games have launched for mobile, PC, and PlayStation 5.
The game’s development is being directly spearheaded by Cai Haoyu, the CEO of miHoYo, whom fans jokingly refer to as "the father of Genshin." His personal involvement in the project has caused buzz among players who anticipate that Varsapura will be the studio’s next big breakthrough.
