Vampire Crawlers will feature the talents of a Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy composer, who is lending her hand to the game’s main theme.

Vampire Crawlers Enlists the Legendary Composer, Yoko Shimomura

Poncle is Proud of Their Collaboration

Poncle, the developers behind the popular Vampire Survivors, have announced that Yoko Shimomura, the iconic composer known for her work on Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy titles, will lend her expertise to craft the main theme for their upcoming game, Vampire Crawlers.

The studio shared its excitement by posting a brief 30-second snippet of the main theme, "Il Cuor non si Spaura" across its social media channels, notably X (Twitter), saying it had the track "on repeat for DAYS" in the caption. They also added that they still "couldn’t believe they got to work with Shimomura-san!"

The full version of Vampire Crawlers’ main theme is now available to listen to on YouTube, where both Poncle and Shimomura encouraged fans to check it out.

Yoko Shimomura’s Impact

Yoko Shimomura also expressed her pride in the collaboration, even retweeting the post on her own X (Twitter) account. She shared that it was an honor to compose Vampire Crawlers’ main theme, while also crediting fellow artists such as Yuma Ito, who performed the violin, and Sorao Mori, who worked on the score.

For added context, Yoko Shimomura is a highly acclaimed Japanese video game composer, widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians in the gaming industry alongside Final Fantasy 7’s Nobuo Uematsu and Nintendo’s Koji Kondo.

She is best known for her contributions across major JRPGs, most notably the Kingdom Hearts series, where she composed "Dearly Beloved," which many fans consider an emotional and iconic piece. Beyond that, she has also contributed to various Final Fantasy entries, including the theme "Somnus" from Final Fantasy XV.

Building Hype for Vampire Crawlers

Inviting Yoko Shimomura to work on the main theme was Poncle’s attempt to build hype for Vampire Crawlers’ imminent release, as the studio experimented with a new roguelike structure.

Crawlers take the form of a first-person dungeon crawler, where players select from a variety of items and upgrades that can push their characters to near-godlike power levels.

Vampire Crawlers represents a major shift away from the bullet-hell style of Vampire Survivors. It instead blends deck-building-inspired combat systems reminiscent of Slay the Spire 2, with first-person exploration elements similar to classic DOOM-style dungeon crawling.

Vampire Crawlers is set to launch on April 21 for Xbox Series X|S, Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. It will also be available on day one for Game Pass subscribers. Poncle has additionally confirmed that the iOS and Android versions will release at a later date.
