New Until Dawn Sequel Takes Players To A Tropical Island
Firesprite Games has announced Until Dawn 2 through the PlayStation State of Play on June 2nd. The sequel to the famed horror is coming to PlayStation 5 in 2027, with the reveal also introducing the game’s first trailer.
Despite being named Until Dawn 2, it is described as a standalone experience with a brand-new cast and a new world to explore that does not seem to require the completion of the first game in the series. This time around, it follows the crew behind Dead True, a paranormal channel who found themselves with the deal of a lifetime. They are now signed with a big TV network, and to make waves, they're sent off on a trip to an abandoned tropical island for their first fully funded episode.
Initially, they come for some fun under the sun, and a few workplace drama here and there, and of course, some filming. They're known for their supernatural hunts, but none of their hunts have ever been real, all staged. What appears to be a normal and staged paranormal trip for some quick views becomes something much larger than any of them would have anticipated.
The sequel will continue the series’ focus on choice and consequence, with player decisions shaping who survives and who dies.According to the PlayStation.Blog post, choices and consequences are heavier and more substantial in the sequel, noting that managing the relationships between the crew "matters more than ever", with both big and small moments setting off a Butterfly Effect or a story branch.
The cast members for Until Dawn 2 have yet to be fully revealed. The developers have shared that they will be revealing more story details, gameplay, and the full list of cast members over the coming months. However, eagle-eyed fans of the series may already recognize one returning character: the enigmatic Dr. Hill, played by Peter Stormare, making his appearance in the sequel's first teaser.
Firesprite Games As Developer
Working on the sequel is developer Firesprite Games (Horizon: Call of the Mountain), a subsidiary of Sony PlayStation Studios. "Like many of you, a bunch of us on the team are massive fans of the original Until Dawn, so getting to build the sequel has been a dream come true," they wrote on the blog post.
One of their aims from day one is to "honor" the core DNA of what makes Until Dawn such a "special game"—character drama, tough choices, and memorable horror moments that stick.
Until Dawn 2 is set to release for PlayStation 5 sometime in 2027.
