Resigns From Gwendolyn, Helps Find Replacement
Tides of Annihilation developer Eclipse Glow Games has confirmed that Jennifer English, best known for major roles such as Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3 and Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, will no longer voice protagonist Gwendolyn, citing personal health reasons. English informed the studio of her decision in early June 2026, and the announcement was made public via the game's official X (Twitter) page on July 17th.
English will still be involved and remain attached to the project in an advisory role. The team is saddened by her decision but respects her choice to prioritize her well-being and health first. According to the announcement, Jennifer "remained incredibly supportive," and she, along with other cast members, helped in searching and casting a replacement for Gwendolyn.
In a short amount of time, a new actress has already been found and is currently recording dialogue. Her performance is set to debut in the playable Tides of Annihilation demo at Gamescom 2026 this August.
Remains Active Across Other Projects
Despite stepping back from Tides of Annihilation, English still has other works. She's currently attached to other projects, including the live-service game Marathon, where she voices Joy, and an upcoming indie game, Emberville, where the cast features a lot of well-known voice actors, alongside a role in the ongoing mini-series Age of Umbra from Critical Role.
With other projects in the background, the actress emphasized on her Instagram story post that she needed to "slow down and reassess" the number of commitments she’s taken on. She noted that she still needs to prioritize her health, therefore, choosing to no longer be a main role in the project.
Due to her rising popularity, Jennifer English is considerably a sought-after voice actress in the gaming industry. She’s done notable work for being in big-name titles like Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, all of which have earned Game Awards in the past years.
Fans Speculate on Who Will Replace Her
Following the post, fans online quickly speculated on who would be voicing the new Gwendolyn. On Twitter (X), one frequently mentioned candidate is Angela Sant'Albano, who voiced Grace Ashcroft in Resident Evil 9 and has drawn attention for that performance in recent months. Some have pointed to Alix Wilton Regan, the actress as the new voice of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst, as another possibility given her extensive video game voice work.
Eclipse Glow Games has kept quiet and not confirmed the identity of the new actress, only stating that her recent performances impressed both the studio and English herself during the casting process. With the network of the cast, the studio felt "fortunate to find an incredibly talented performer to carry Gwendolyn forward."
