The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Announces 3rd DLC, Songs of the Past

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt makes an epic comeback with the game’s 3rd DLC in development, Songs of the Past, coming in 2027.

The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past DLC Revealed

Coming 2027

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt just announced a new upcoming DLC for the game coming in 2027, called Songs of the Past. Even with The Witcher 4 on the horizon, Geralt’s story appears to not end, as the DLC will take players "to the Path with Geralt of Rivia once more."

Developed by CD Projekt Red (CDPR) and in collaboration with Fool’s Theory (The Thaumaturge, Seven: The Days Long Gone), the DLC is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2027, with more concrete details to follow sometime in late summer.

Originally, the big reveal of Songs of the Past was scheduled for tomorrow during a REDstream, possibly during the special anniversary stream of the game’s second DLC, Blood and Wine. However, eagle-eyed fans spotted the news early on the REDLauncher, the official specialized hub for all CDPR games, lasting for approximately 20 minutes before being taken down. The team commented on this themselves in the DLC announcement thread, citing that they "found something [they] didn’t yet expect" on the launcher.

Fans Are Stoked

The news comes as a surprise, as the decade-old game’s last and supposedly final DLC, Blood and Wine, was released back in 2016, as well as the fact that the sequel, The Witcher 4, is already in active development. Nevertheless, fans have clamored on social media and in the replies to the announcement post on X (Twitter) to celebrate the sudden reveal, with many replying with excitement and gratitude to the developers for "announcement of the year".

Other fans have gone straight into theorizing, positing that the title of the DLC, Songs of the Past, could refer to a prequel DLC of a younger Geralt. Some have said that this DLC might reveal lore and narrative tied to The Witcher 4, seeing that it was released this late into its lifespan.

New DLC, New Requirements

Alongside the future addition of new content, CDPR has also released a post that there will be upcoming changes to the game’s minimum requirements for PC specifications, given the base game’s age and the new hardware of the upcoming DLC.

"With new content coming to the game, we need to update our system requirements to ensure smooth performance and compatibility going forward for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Songs of the Past," they wrote on the official website post. The new minimum requirements are as follows, starting from the next update patch:

 ⚫︎ CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600, Intel Core i5-8400
⚫︎ GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660, AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB
 ⚫︎ VRAM: 6 GB
 ⚫︎ RAM: 12 GB
 ⚫︎ Storage: 70 GB SSD
 ⚫︎ OS: 64-bit Windows 11

Additionally, Windows 11 will be the minimum required OS for both The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077, following Microsoft’s end of support of the Windows 10 OS. HDDs will also no longer be supported in favor of faster-loading and better-performing SSDs.
