Tekken 8 Adds Kunimitsu as Season 3's First DLC Fighter With May 27 Early Access and June 1 Release

Tekken 8 brings back Kunimitsu as Season 3’s first DLC fighter, available May 27 for Season Pass holders and June 1 for all players. Here’s what her return adds to the roster.

Tekken 8 Adds Kunimitsu in Season 3 DLC

Releasing May 27 for Pass Holders, Then June 1 for Individual Purchase

Tekken 8 developer Bandai Namco revealed Kunimitsu’s gameplay trailer at Evo Japan 2026 on May 3, showcasing Season 3’s first DLC character. Kunimitsu is set to release May 27 for Season 3 Character Pass holders and June 1 as a standalone purchase.

Evo Japan 2026 is one of the fighting game community’s major annual tournaments. Kunimitsu’s gameplay trailer was shown during Tekken 8’s finals, giving fans their first in-depth look at her updated moveset.

Kunimitsu’s "Revamped Battle Style"

Kunimitsu Release Info

As a kunoichi (a female ninja), Kunimitsu fights using a "revamped battle style" that combines Manji Ninjutsu and tantojutsu. Manji Ninjutsu is a fictional fighting style practiced by members of the Manji Clan, like Yoshimitsu.

Tantojutsu, on the other hand, focuses on close-range combat using short blades. As the developers note, she "offers a deeply rewarding gameplay experience" and is best for " those who prioritize precise control and mind games in their playstyle."

Her moveset includes high-speed dashes that quickly close distance and countering in mid-air. She builds her offense by "transitioning between special stances," letting her vary her attack tempo and pressure opponents. Her playstyle also revolves around "swift movements and acrobatic martial arts."

After initiating combos, she can follow up with projectile attacks to maintain pressure at range. Some of her movements resemble teleportation, including the ability to avoid low attacks. She also has fire-based techniques, including a move where flames swirl upward as she forms a hand seal, as well as a fire-breathing attack.

During Heat—a temporary powered-up state in Tekken 8 that boosts offense—Kunimitsu becomes even faster, with attacks that are harder to react to. Some of her moves also appear to take advantage of Power Crush, a mechanic that lets certain attacks absorb hits while continuing forward.

Like all fighters, she has access to a Rage Art, where she summons katanas and unleashes a Kuji-do technique, forming a grid of floating blades around her as part of a ritual-like attack.

The Enchanted Thief

Kunimitsu Rage Art

Kunimitsu in Tekken 8 is the daughter of the original character of the same name, a member of the Manji Clan who first appeared in the original Tekken as a sub-boss to Michelle Chang, one of the game’s original fighters. Known as the Phantom Thief, the original Kunimitsu later passed the role down to her daughter, who debuted in Tekken 7: Fated Retribution as part of its Season 4 DLC. In the Tekken 8 trailer, she is introduced as the "Enchanted Thief."

Her connections extend to other fighters in the current roster. Kunimitsu is familiar with Raven, who is said to have trained under her father, and also has connections with Reina. According to the development team, Kunimitsu goes undercover at Mishima Polytechnical School as part of a mission and discovers that Reina is using a false identity, while Reina is already aware that Kunimitsu is a thief.

Season 3 Character Pass Details and Pricing

Tekken 8 Season 3 Pass Infographic

Kunimitsu was first confirmed as part of Tekken 8’s Season 3 DLC lineup in February 2026. She is included in the Season 3 Character Pass, which grants access to all four Season 3 characters, including:

 ⚫︎ Bob - Summer 2026
 ⚫︎ Roger Jr. - Autumn 2026
⚫︎ A fourth, unannounced character and a new battle stage - Winter 2027

She will be available to purchase as a standalone starting June 1 for players who prefer to buy individual characters.

The Season 3 Character Pass is priced at around $34.99, while individual character pricing has not been confirmed, though previous releases typically ranged from $7.99 to $9.99 USD. The pass includes five days of early access for each character and the Aurora Outfit Pack, which features metallic-themed costumes.

Reception and Player Concerns

While the new trailer has generated excitement, player sentiment remains cautious. Tekken 8’s second season received criticism for its balance direction, as its intended emphasis on defensive play instead resulted in more offense and aggression. The update also introduced a cash shop, an in-game store for paid cosmetic items, shortly after launch, which drew backlash and frustrated some players. Season 3 was later marketed as "back to basics," raising expectations across the community.

However, the release of Version 3.0 patch notes drew mixed to negative reactions. Many players described the update as a gradual adjustment rather than the larger shift that had been promoted. Instead of reverting earlier changes, the patch continued to reward aggressive playstyles and focused on smaller balance tweaks. An emergency patch was later released to address critical bugs and unintended gameplay issues, but this did little to ease concerns. This has left players cautious about how upcoming content, including Kunimitsu, will affect the game’s competitive balance.

Tekken 8 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For more information about the game, check out our article below.
