Tears of Themis New Marius Card Sparks Comparisons to Wuthering Waves' Brant

Tears of Themis Marius in Keen Blade MR Card

Wuthering Waves fans spotted Brant's resemblance to the new Marius card from Tears of Themis. Check out what both communities are saying below.

Tears of Themis Twitter Points Similarities

Tears of Themis (ToT) and Wuthering Waves (WuWa) communities have engaged in both heated and friendly discussions on X (formerly Twitter), following miHoYo's reveal of a new Marius card on May 26. Fans were quick to point out that the artwork mirrored Brant's design from WuWa, including the pose, hat, and color palette of steel blue and magenta.

Marius, one of the love interests in ToT, is set to be featured in the upcoming "Edge of Brilliance" event on its global server on May 29, with his own limited MR card called "Keen Blade." In line with the card series' fairy tale theme, Marius dons a swashbuckling outfit inspired by Puss in Boots. However, it wasn't long before players noted his resemblance to Brant, whose troupe in WuWa emphasizes theatrics and a pirate motif.

Opinions varied between the two communities, with side-by-side parallels leading to memes and jokes about mistaking it for a Brant rerun or a WuWa and ToT collab. Though many exchanges remained cordial, others argued the design drew too closely from Brant.

Defending Marius, ToT players clarified that the otome game first launched in China (CN) in 2020, four years before the Kuro Games title was released. Many also expressed frustration about ToT's rising visibility in likes and retweets "at the cost of" hostility from non-otome players directed at the game.

For context, Brant made his WuWa debut in March 2025, while "Edge of Brilliance" went live on ToT’s CN server in May 2025. Comparisons between Marius’ card and Brant, with lighthearted quips such as "they’re the same picture," had already begun surfacing as early as last year. As the English server is a year behind CN, it has only caught up to the event this week.

According to HoYoLab's official website, the limited-time Marius event is scheduled to run from May 29 at 11:00 AM JST / May 28 at 10:00 PM EDT / 7:00 PM PDT to June 5 at 4:00 AM JST / June 4 at 3:00 PM EDT / 12:00 PM PDT.

During the event, players can capture gift balls of assorted colors and convert them into rewards such as Tears of Themis, S-Chips, level-up materials, and the "Keen Blade" MR card. The card is a one-time redemption and cannot be obtained through any other means outside the event.

Developed by miHoYo and published by its subsidiary HoYoverse, Tears of Themis was released globally in 2021 as a free-to-play detective romance game for Android and iOS devices. It has since established itself in the genre and earned recognition as one of China's "Big 6" mobile otome games, alongside Love and Deepspace and Light and Night.

Meanwhile, Wuthering Waves is a 2024 action RPG developed and published by Kuro Games and is available for free on Android and iOS, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam, Epic Games, and WuWa's official website. Supported by a large player base, it is now among the most popular gacha titles, joining the likes of Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero.
