Starfield PS5 Features Revealed; Steam Achievements Gives Clues Around Terran Armada DLC

Starfield launches on PS5 on April 7 alongside the Free Lanes update and Terran Armada DLC. Bethesda has also outlined PS5 features, while new Steam achievements hint at more systems tied to the upcoming content.

Starfield PS5 Features Revealed as Terran Armada Achievements Hint at New Systems

PS5 Version Adds DualSense Support and PS5 Pro Modes

Starfield will launch on PlayStation 5 on April 7, following Bethesda’s announcement on March 17. This release arrives alongside the Free Lanes update and the new Terran Armada DLC.

To take advantage of the hardware, the PS5 version will incorporate several platform-specific features. According to Sony’s PlayStation Blog, these include DualSense adaptive triggers and light bar feedback tied to player health and ship integrity. Furthermore, the touchpad has shortcuts for switching between points of view and accessing the map and hand scanner. The controller speaker broadcasts in-game audio logs and non-local ship intercoms.

For those with PS5 Pro, the game will offer a Pro Visual Mode running at 4K resolution at 30 FPS and a Pro Performance Mode that targets 60 FPS, still with improved visuals.

Free Lanes and Terran Armada Also Arrive on April 7

Accompanying its PS5 release is what Bethesda described on their official website as "Starfield’s most expansive free update yet." Known as "Free Lanes," this upcoming quality-of-life update adds the ability to freely fly between planets within a single star system. This is supported by an uptick in space encounters and the addition of a new resource for gear and ship customization. The update extends even to new options for upgrading Starborn abilities and bringing gear into New Game+.

On the other hand, the Terran Armada DLC centers on a new robotic force, aptly called the Terrans, threatening the Settled Systems. It introduces Incursions, combat events against these hostile robots that can occur anywhere in the Settled System. These Incursions are a major part of Terran Armada’s story, but Bethesda also says they can function as repeatable combat encounters with rewards. There is also a plethora of new content, such as new ships and ship parts, a new reprogrammed Terran Armada robot companion named Delta, new gear, and rewards tied to the story.

PlayStation Blog says the new content is meant to make Starfield feel bigger, deeper, and more rewarding for both new and returning players.

Steam Achievements Suggest More Terran Armada Systems

The public Steam achievement list for Starfield appears to hint at new objectives and progression tied to Terran Armada and the April 7 update. Some achievement descriptions mention building out and handing over an outpost to a faction, convincing Delta that the player character is worthy of the title Captain, fully upgrading Delta, and proving the superiority of artificial life.

Other achievement descriptions point to clearing Incursions, installing a spaceship equipment module, applying a Rank 4 Legendary Effect to equipment, collecting all Action Figures, and retrieving your inventory from another universe. Together, these entries suggest that the update may include new mission goals, companion progression, equipment upgrades, and repeatable combat encounters, although Bethesda has not yet fully detailed all of them in its official preview.

Starfield is a sci-fi role-playing game from Bethesda Game Studios set across the Settled Systems, a region of human-colonized star systems in the game’s universe. It is currently available on Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, with a PlayStation port this April 7. For more information about the game, check out the article below.
