Returnal Follow-Up
According to the developers, Saros departs from some traditional roguelike mechanics and will instead feature permanent resources, weapons, armors, and upgrades to allow players to tackle the challenges that could defeat them throughout their adventures.
Saros builds upon Returnal's gameplay, presenting a new experience with a wide variety of combat options and weapons. Protagonist Arjun Soltari will have an array of items and weaponry to combat the forces of Carcosa.
"Come Back Stronger"
Saros puts great emphasis on returning to the fight better than ever before, as conveyed by the game's tagline. Here, whenever players are bested in their treks through Carcosa, they will be able to visit Primary in the Passage. Then, through the Armor Matrix, players can spend currency gathered during runs to upgrade armor attributes, acquire perks, and come back stronger.
Chief among these parks is the "Second Chance" ability. Upon his first death on each run, Arjun can utilize eclipse corruption energy to immediately resurrect and get another shot at reaching the end.
World and Gameplay Modification
In between excursions, players can choose to apply Carcosan Modifications to fit their playstyle, increase the challenge, and shape gameplay the way they want to.
Players will have to maintain balance, however, as each modification has an assigned Balance Change quantity. Lean too far towards higher or lower difficulties, and players will not be able to lock in their slate of modifications.
A Full Arsenal
Arjun's advanced combat suit allows players to dash, melee, jump, and more. Additionally, players can use the Soltari Shield as their defensive mechanism to absorb the energy of hostile projectiles by running into them, thereby bolstering their defense. Energy that has been absorbed from incoming attacks is used to charge players' Carcosan Power Weapon, which can then be discharged at enemies.
At the start of every run, players will select from a mix of Soltari human and Carcosan alien weaponry. Meanwhile, the Power Weapons effectively transform Arjun's right arm into an eclipse-fuelled weapon, though this process is corrupting him. This weapon provides an alternate and customizable method for the character to inflict devastating damage on adversaries.
Saros Story Plot
Saros Story
Saros centers around the protagonist Arjun Devraj, a Soltari Enforcer played by Hollywood actor Rahul Kohli. Arjun is a part of Echelon 4, a unit of elite operatives sent to the planet of Carsosa in search of missing colonists. Mysterious phenomena abound in Carcosa, along with dangerous beasts and cosmic horrors.
Arjun must venture throughout the barren landscapes in search of a way to save his squad, the missing people, and a person important to him. The story is stated to be an emotional character study that dives deep into the concept of the sacrifices one must make to create a new future for oneself and for others.
Saros Setting
Carcosa is a shape-shifting alien planet in a constant state of flux and repeated death. During Saros, the planet is plunged into darkness by an eclipse that corrupts its flora and fauna.
Otherworldly and cosmically horrifying beings exist on Carcosa, and venturing into its wilds will likely bring about new questions faster than answers.
Saros Characters
Arjun Devraj
Saros follows the story of Arjun Devraj as he and his crew investigate an off-world colony on the planet Carcosa. He is a Soltari Enforcer hellbent on unraveling the mystery of the planet's missing colony as well as finding someone important to him.
Sheridan Bouchard
Sheridan is the commander of Echelon Four, an elite unit of operatives, of which Arjun is a part, sent to Carcosa. Strong-willed and resilient, Commander Bouchard bears the responsibility of making sure her remaining operatives both stay on track and survive.
