Pokémon Winds and Waves Update Fans with BTS Look
Pokémon Main Theme Gets a Fresh Spin from NHK Symphony Orchestra
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves received a new update, as the franchise’s official social media accounts unveiled a video of the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo, Japan, recording the main theme for the upcoming Generation 10 games. This marks their first development news shared publicly since the Pokémon Day 2026 announcement in February.
The video offered fans a behind‑the‑scenes look at the orchestra playing the familiar title‑screen theme while altering the score’s arrangement in some sections. "The music signals the beginning of a brand‑new adventure," the caption read.
Short clips from the February trailer accompany the recording, highlighting the archipelago reportedly inspired by Southeast Asia, as well as the starter trio: Browt, the "Bean Chick" Grass-type; Pombon, the Fire-type "Puppy Pokémon" based on the Pomeranian; and Gecqua, the "Water Gecko" Pokémon. The snippets also see the return of old Pokémon suited to the tropical beach setting, such as Krabby, Wingull, Frillish, and more.
Fans Express Delight on Social Media

The BTS earned praise from the Pokémon community, many noting that music has long been a defining strength for the franchise, even as newer titles such as the spin-off Pokémon Champions face persistent criticism over visuals and performance. "The Pokémon theme always makes me a little emotional," a user commented on YouTube.
Fans pointed out the "brilliant" symbolism of Winds through the wind instruments, and Waves through the "oscillation [and] vibration" of strings. Drawing parallels to Generation 3, they also compared Winds and Waves' brass sound to the MIDI-based melodies of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald (RSE) that resemble trumpets.
Notably, both RSE’s Hoenn region and Generation 10 share similar environmental motifs built around islands, coastlines, and seas. Another comparison often raised is to Generation 7's Alola region in Pokémon Sun and Moon, which primarily borrowed influence from the real-life Hawaiian Islands.

Scheduled for a 2027 launch, Pokémon Winds and Waves is set to be the first Pokémon mainline installment developed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 by Game Freak. It follows Generation 9's Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which launched in 2022 for the Nintendo Switch family of systems.
