Pokémon Teases Mega Rayquaza TCG Packs With Five Other Reveals “Coming Soon”

Pokemon

The Pokémon Company has recently launched a new teaser hub dedicated entirely to Mega Rayquaza. Pokémon Japan opened a stylized promotional website that sees the sky-dwelling Dragon-type at the center of the brand’s immediate universe.

The Pokémon Company Launches Mega Rayquaza Campaign

New TCG and TCG Pocket Sets to Kick Off the Event

The Pokémon franchise appears to be preparing a larger Mega Rayquaza-focused campaign after revealing the first details of what looks to be a multi-part announcement initiative centered on the Legendary Pokémon. Although only two projects have been formally unveiled so far, the campaign’s official website teases five more announcements on the way.

The first confirmed reveal is Ruler of the Skies, an upcoming expansion for the Pokémon TCG Pocket mobile game. The set is scheduled to arrive on July 30 and uses the code B4, which means it is the fourth set following the three previous main sets: Genetic Apex (B1), Space-Time Smackdown (B2), and Pulsing Aura (B3). Smaller sets (like B2a or B2b) are released between these major updates, and it is expected that there will be one more set (B3b) between Paradox Dive (B3a) and Ruler of the Skies.

The second announcement is Storm Emeralda, a new Pokémon TCG expansion scheduled for release in Japan on July 31. The English version of the set, officially titled Mega Evolution—Delta Reign, will follow a few months later on November 6. The full card list remains unknown, but Mega Rayquaza ex is confirmed to headline the expansion.

Speculations on Future Mega Rayquaza Campaign Announcements

Pokemon Japan website teasing five other announcements for the Mega Rayquaza campaign. Two of them have been revealed to be new TCG and TCG Pocket sets.

At present, the remaining five announcements remain a mystery. The official Mega Rayquaza campaign website simply labels them as "Coming Soon," and no additional details have been provided. Two of the mystery dates sit prior to the July TCG releases, while three are scheduled to drop sequentially afterward. Given the Pokémon community’s penchant for speculation, fans are already guessing what else the franchise could be planning for its 30th anniversary.

Will Pokémon Emerald Come to Switch?

A Nintendo Switch release of Pokémon Emerald would arguably be one of the easiest announcements to connect to a Mega Rayquaza campaign. Earlier this year, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company brought Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen to Switch as standalone digital releases rather than through Nintendo Switch Online. It was the first time those Game Boy Advance titles had been officially available on modern hardware.

Although the Pokémon community has long clamored for more ambitious Hoenn projects—such as a modern remaster of the 3DS titles Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, or a Delta Emerald concept fans have wanted for a decade—a direct port of the original Pokémon Emerald is far more practical. Like the FireRed and LeafGreen ports, it would lack modern online trading or battling via Wi-Fi, but it would integrate built-in local wireless play and Pokémon HOME connectivity.

This would allow players to catch Rayquaza natively in its third-generation environment and transfer it forward to modern titles like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet or the newly released Pokémon Champions.

Could a New Mega Rayquaza Event Be Coming to Pokémon GO?

Current speculations also point toward a tie-in with Niantic’s Pokémon GO, which utilizes Mega Evolution mechanics for major summer live events. The Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Global takes place earlier in the month, on July 11 and July 12, 2026, with headline debuts locked in as Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Mewtwo Y, and Zeraora.

However, during this specific mid-month window, Niantic has scheduled the base-form, standard Rayquaza to return to Five-Star Raids globally. Because the baseline Pokemon will be actively distributed to millions of mobile players just two weeks.

Unlike other species, however, Rayquaza cannot achieve its Mega form through standard Mega Energy alone; it is mechanically locked until the specific individual Pokemon learns its signature attack, Dragon Ascent. This move cannot be taught via normal items and requires an exceptionally rare, event-exclusive item known as Meteorite. The last time these were distributed was during a [ex_linkMega Rayquaza Raid Day(https://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-news/ascend-to-new-heights-during-pokemon-gos-mega-rayquaza-raid-day)] on October 18, 2025.

If Niantic doesn’t distribute Meteorites in a similar event this July, players will finish the global Go Fest 2026 weekend with standard Rayquazas that lack the ability to evolve.

Could New Merch and Mobile Game Events Be Coming Next?

Other predictions range from new merch, like LEGO Pokémon "Smart Play" sets—similar to the ones releasing this August—as well as anime tie-ins to special events within Pokémon Masters EX, Pokémon Unite, or even Pokémon Sleep.

Rayquaza has long been one of the franchise's most marketable Legendary Pokémon, and Pokémon has historically leveraged that popularity across multiple branches of the brand whenever a big celebration is underway.

For now, though, all eyes remain fixed on the five empty slots beside the campaign's first announcements. Whether the project ultimately expands into games, merchandise, competitive events, or Hoenn-themed events, Pokémon is clearly making Mega Rayquaza a headline attraction for the months ahead.
