Pokémon Fossil Museum Opens Doors at the Field Museum
Exhibition Runs Through April 2027
The Pokémon Fossil Museum is officially making its North American debut at the Field Museum in Chicago on May 22, 2026, running all the way through April 11, 2027. Co-created by the Field Museum, the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo, and The Pokémon Company International, combining fun and education for both Pokémon and prehistoric creatures.
The limited-event exhibit invites visitors to draw comparisons between Fossil Pokémon like Tyrantrum and Archeops and real-world specimens, including the Field Museum's iconic 40-foot T. Rex, SUE. Visitors can expect to see Pokémon models, real fossil excavation and preparation tools, soundscapes, and immersive showcases throughout.
Field Museum scientists and Pokémon Professors are fittingly both featured as part of the experience, sharing expansive knowledge on ecology, biology, natural history, and, of course, Pokémon! The exhibition is designed for all ages, making it a strong outing for longtime fans and families alike.
Exhibition Tickets and Pricing

The Pokémon Fossil Museum requires an add-on ticket on top of the Field Museum’s general admission. Gaining entry to the Pokémon Fossil Museum itself costs an additional $18 for a limited-time slot entry, bringing the total ticket cost for a general guest to $48. General admission to the museum starts at $30 for general guests and $21 for Chicago residents, with Illinois residents able to visit for free every Wednesday.
Booking in advance is strongly recommended given the high level of interest. According to USA Today, when tickets first went on sale in March on the museum’s booking portal, thousands of visitors logged on simultaneously, overwhelming the Field Museum's website and creating hours-long queues.
Exclusive Merchandise Available at the Museum and Online

The Pokémon Company International has revealed the merchandise lineup coming to the exhibition, available at a dedicated retail experience within the Field Museum Store for ticketed visitors, while supplies last and regulations in effect. The collection focuses on the exhibition's celebration of scientific discovery, featuring an exclusive Pikachu alongside Fossil Pokémon like Aerodactyl, Tyrantrum, and the like across keychains, tote bags, Pokémon TCG accessories, stickers, clothes, and more.
For those who can't make the trip all the way to Chicago, the fossil museum line is also available through the US Pokémon Center online. The standout item is the Excavator Pikachu plush, which comes dressed in a cozy blue vest, a bright red bandana, and a hat with a fossil patch, pickaxe in hand and ready to unearth some fossilized friends.
Community reaction to the merchandise reveal has been mixed but engaged. Some fans have pointed out that the pin collection and skeletal poster are a particular highlight, while others have expressed familiar frustration at Pikachu's prominence across the lineup. No exclusive in-person promo card for exhibition visitors has been announced as of yet, though this has drawn a fair amount of attention and inquiries from the Pokémon TCG community.
What Is the Pokémon Fossil Museum?

The Pokémon Fossil Museum is a traveling international exhibition that first ran in Japan, which ended in May 2025, before making its way overseas. Its premise pairs the franchise's Fossil Pokémon with real-world paleontology, using the overlap between fiction and science as a way to engage visitors with natural history.
The Chicago stop marks its first appearance in North America and represents one of the more ambitious real-world Pokémon activations tied to the franchise's ongoing 30th anniversary celebrations. The Pokémon Fossil Museum is available until April 2027, and tickets are currently available for purchase on the museum’s website, with slots being taken up fast.
