What To Expect In PlayStation State of Play September 2026
Extended Look at FF7 Revelation and Possible New Info on Upcoming PS Titles

As is the case with State of Play presentations, Sony has not announced the games that will appear during the upcoming showcase outside of confirming that an extended look at Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will conclude the event. The presentation will, however, feature "updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners" from around the world before transitioning immediately into the separate State of Play Japan presentation.
With the showcase arriving just weeks before several major releases and with Sony already teasing projects planned for 2027 and beyond, fans are waiting in the wings for more information on some of PlayStation’s biggest upcoming titles.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Gameplay Reveal Might Finally Happen
One of the most frequently mentioned candidates is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Naughty Dog’s new sci-fi action game. The title was first announced almost two years ago, at The Game Awards in December 2024, where Naughty Dog revealed Tati Gabrielle as protagonist Jordan A. Mun. Sony and Naughty Dog have shared very little about the project since then, with its announcement trailer remaining the game’s only major public showcase.
Recent reports, though, have pointed to a potential release sometime in the next year or so. Actor Robert Atkin Downes, who has appeared in previous Naughty Dog games, confirmed in August that he had returned to work with Naughty Dog. Moreover, earlier today, Naughty Dog revealed that the team had wrapped the game’s "cinematic shoot." The long silence has made Intergalactic one of the most requested games for the September showcase, and its status as one of Sony’s biggest unreleased first-party projects makes a new look here a strong possibility.
God of War: Laufey Release Date Could Be a Possibility

God of War: Laufey is another first-party project that could return during the showcase. Santa Monica Studio revealed the next mainline entry in the series during the June 2026 State of Play, where they introduced Faye as the playable protagonist and showed her journey through the Everywhen, an afterlife inhabited by gods from across different mythologies.
Sony has yet to announce a release date, other than confirming that the game is coming soon to PS5. Santa Monica Studio did, however, say that it would share more details as development moves closer to launch. As the game was only recently announced, its release is likely still some time away. Nevertheless, an appearance that shows more of the game’s story and combat would be a promising sign of more good things to come.
More Updates and Reveals to be Expected

These are only a few of the games fans are hoping to see during the September 2026 State of Play. Sony has kept the full lineup under wraps, so there is still plenty of room for surprises when the showcase goes live. The complete picture will only become clear once the presentation airs on September 3.
What is PlayStation State of Play?

PlayStation State of Play is a regular program by Sony that aims to deliver updates on upcoming and recently released games, as well as hardware and other PlayStation-related news. It is their showcase event, similar to Nintendo Direct and Xbox Developer Direct, that is pre-recorded and streamed online, featuring game trailers, developer insights, and sometimes surprise announcements.
There is no strict schedule for PlayStation State of Play showcases. It can happen multiple times a year, depending on whether Sony has anything major to share with the gaming community, whether it’s about their own IPs, indies, or other big updates.
