Persona 6 Finally Revealed 10 Years After Persona 5

Image

Persona 6 is real, and it was just teased during Xbox Games Showcase 2026. Learn more about the long-awaited JRPG here.

Persona 6 Teaser Comes Almost 10 Years After Persona 5 Release

Coming to PC, PS5. and Xbox Series X|S

After almost ten years since Persona 5 on the PS3 and PS4, Atlus has finally teased Persona 6. The long-awaited JRPG made its first official appearance during the Xbox Games Showcase June 2026, and it gave fans their first look at the next mainline entry in one of gaming’s most popular role-playing series.

The teaser itself was short, but it confirmed several details. Persona 6 is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It revealed the game’s overall atmosphere and little else.

According to the game's official description, though, Persona 6 will once again "lead a double-life in modern-day Japan" and pursue friendships, romance, and "memories that matter." All this while investigating "strange rumors, unsettling urban legends, and occult incidents that only you and your closest allies can face."

Atlus has yet to reveal specific details about the story, but the teaser and official description both point toward a mystery-driven narrative centered on using Personas "against the darkness lurking within."

When Will Persona 6 Release?

As exciting as the reeal was, Atlus did not announce a release window. Fans, then, are left wondering how long the wait will be. Looking at Persona 5 may offer a few clues.

Persona 5 was first teased in November 2013 with a short trailer that revealed very little about the game itself, much like what was shown for Persona 6. At the time, Atlus was targeting a release in late 2014, but as fans may know, the project was delayed multiple times as development expanded and the team worked to improve the final product.

The game’s final Japanese release date was not announced until May 2016, roughly two and a half years after its initial reveal, before it eventually launched in September of that same year. In total, nearly three years passed between Persona 5’s first teaser and its release.

Whether Persona 6 follows a similar timeline remains unclear, especially since Atlus seems to have become much more cautious about announcing games too early, as evidenced by their other games, like Metaphor: ReFantazio, which was formally unveiled in June 2023 and launched in October 2024. That’s a much shorter gap than Persona 5. Likewise, Persona 3 Reload was announced in June 2023 and released in February 2024.

These projects were shown when they were already far enough along in development that Atlus could maintain the flow of updates leading into launch.

Who knows? Given the studio’s recent pattern, Persona 6 could arrive sooner than Persona 5 did after its reveal. Atlus did not provide any indication of when players should expect to get their hands on the game, but, hey, fans can dream.
