Call of Duty: Mobile (CODM) unveiled its upcoming collaboration with the popular JRPG franchise, Persona 5 Royal (P5R). As announced on CODM’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on May 28, the Phantom Thieves of Hearts are set to infiltrate the multiplayer battle royale soon.
Not much has been revealed about the coming crossover, but the teaser video featured snippets of what fans can expect with the collab. Based on the previewed silhouettes, it appears that four characters from P5R will make their way to CODM.
These characters are Joker, Ann Takamaki, Makoto Nijima, and Sumire Yoshizawa, all of which carrying firearms. While more could still come, fans are curious whether P5R’s "mascot," Morgana, will make it into the game, and how his small, unconventional stature will be implemented.
Persona 5 Royal Continues Its Crossover Tour
For years, P5R has collaborated with an array of games and brands worldwide, with its most recent stop prior to CODM being a major event in Heaven Burns Red. The stylish flair of the Phantom Thieves continues to captivate various gaming communities, but the announcement has also revived an infamous, long-running internet meme: the "Persona Collab Curse."
While highly successful giants like CODM are clearly immune to this "curse," the superstition stems from a handful of past mobile titles, such as Dragalia Lost, Star Ocean: Anamnesis, and Sword Art Online: Memory Defrag, that officially shut down their servers not long after Joker and his crew made an appearance.
Regardless, CODM fans remain highly excited and intrigued by this upcoming collaboration. But before the Phantom Thieves officially arrive to steal hearts, players can still dive into the chaotic arrival of The Boys, who are currently wreaking havoc across the battle royale shooter in Season 5: Revenge.
