Onimusha: Way of the Sword Surpasses 1 Million Sales on Launch Day
Franchise Sales at 10 Million Units Total and Counting
Onimusha: Way of the Sword was confirmed to have sold 1 million copies on its opening day, with the debut strong enough to push the entire Onimusha franchise's lifetime sales past 10 million units. Set in Edo-era Kyoto, Way of the Sword casts Miyamoto Musashi as its lead and carries the franchise's sword-play combat with a modern visual overhaul and a "compelling story." Capcom credited sales to the groundwork laid well before the release, with a run of public demos and hands-on showcases aimed at exposing the game to those familiar and unfamiliar with the series.
After its full launch, the online community has been praising it as another well-received title from Capcom this year. With dusting off older titles like Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny beforehand, Onimusha had sat mostly untouched since the early 2000s, making this one of the more successful examples, which paid off in consistent marketing. With this praise, we at Game8 wholeheartedly agree: Onimusha: Way of the Sword might just be "already the best game in the franchise."
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. For more insights on the game, check out our review below:
