No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 Needs More Development Time, Says Creative Director
Final Test Will Be Held in December
No Rest for the Wicked has delayed its 1.0 launch from October 2026 to March 2027, with Moon Studios citing additional development time needed to improve the action RPG overall. The full release will arrive on PC via Steam and PS5. The Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 versions, however, remain without release dates.
Moon Studios announced the delay on the 1st of September, several months after it revealed October as the target for the game’s transition out of Early Access. The studio said the additional time will allow its development team to address areas that have not yet reached the quality expected for version 1.0. The game entered Steam Early Access in April 2024 after years of development.
Creative director Thomas Mahler addressed the delay in a video message, apologizing to players who had expected to play the full version within the next few weeks. He explained that Moon Studios has spent the period since the October announcement adding content and integrating the systems planned for 1.0.
"We’ve been play testing a lot," Mahler said, before acknowledging that the team was "not quite there yet."
According to Mahler, Moon Studios had been on a "mad dash" to add content and complete the systems planned for the 1.0 release. The class system is one of the big additions planned for the full version. Moon Studios previously described it as a complete overhaul of character progression that will give players greater control over their builds and playstyles.

Moon Studios plans to conduct additional closed beta tests in the coming months, followed by an open Public Test Realm (PTR) in December. Mahler said it will be the final opportunity for players to test a version of the game before its 1.0 launch.
The 1.0 release will substantially expand the Early Access version with more than 60 hours of new content, including new areas, enemies, bosses and weapons. It will further expand the game’s endgame and conclude the story, while persistent multiplayer realms, cross-play and cross-save are planned for the full version.

The additional development time will allow Moon Studios to "land this plane safely," according to Mahler, who said the team wants to avoid shipping with "any silly little bugs" left. He described No Rest for the Wicked as a long-term passion project for Moon Studios, noting that the team began developing its prototypes at the end of 2016.
The studio hopes to deliver "one of those generational games that only comes out once in, you know, every so often," Mahler said.
Founders Pack Cutoff Gets Extended

The delay has extended the eligibility period for the game’s Founders Pack. PC players who purchase No Rest for the Wicked before January 1, 2027 will receive the rewards, and purchases made after the original cutoff on July 10 are now included retroactively. PS5 pre-orders will open in January and will give access to the same Founders Pack rewards.
The Founders Pack includes the Spirit Cavern hideout, the Sayer’s Vow sword, a Founders Tag, and access to a dedicated public beta realm that will remain available after the 1.0 launch.

Moon Studios said they will continue providing development updates through its ongoing Wicked Inside video series.
For now, though, the studio’s next milestone is the December open PTR, with No Rest for the Wicked’s 1.0 release now scheduled for March 2027.
