Nintendo Music App Finally Expands Beyond Mobile
Web Player, CarPlay, and Android Auto Are Now Supported
Nintendo has announced new features for Nintendo Music, expanding the soundtrack service beyond its original mobile app setup. The latest update allows users to listen to Nintendo game music on phones, computers, tablets, and supported car systems through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The biggest change is the addition of a web player. Users can now listen to, browse, and organize playlists through a desktop web browser, and anyone can preview the library without a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
This gives Nintendo Music a more flexible setup, especially for users who want to listen to Nintendo soundtracks outside their smartphone or tablet.
Car Playback Comes With Some Feature Limits
Nintendo Music now works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, making it easier for users to listen to Nintendo soundtracks while driving. Nintendo also notes that users can listen to and control playlists with voice commands while in the car.
However, not every playback feature is available through car systems. Nintendo Support says Sleep Timer and Play Hourly Tracks are unavailable through CarPlay. On Android Auto, Extend To, Sleep Timer, and Play Hourly Tracks are unavailable.
Nintendo also says compatibility is not guaranteed for all in-vehicle displays. This means the feature is now supported, but the experience may still depend on the user’s car display and setup.
My Mix and More Music Added to Nintendo Music
Nintendo Music also includes My Mix, a feature that generates a playlist based on the user’s Nintendo Switch play history. This gives members a more personalized way to find tracks tied to games they have played, though the feature is not available in the web browser version of Nintendo Music.
The service now includes over 250 hours of Nintendo game music across more than 130 titles. With the new web player, users can browse the expanded library on a computer, while the mobile app still supports more personalized features like My Mix.
Nintendo Music Still Needs Switch Online for Full Access
Nintendo Music is a soundtrack streaming service included with Nintendo Switch Online. Members can stream or download Nintendo soundtracks, create playlists, browse music by category, and listen to tracks from franchises such as Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, and more.
A Nintendo Switch Online membership and Nintendo Account are still required to use Nintendo Music’s main features. However, the new web player makes the service easier to access across more devices than before.
