Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance Debuts Its First Trailer
New Monsters Steal the Spotlight
Capcom unveiled a Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance First Trailer during the September 2026 State of Play. Ahead of the Capcom event at the 2026 Tokyo Game Show, the team surprised the community at PlayStation’s livestream with a closer look at the highly-anticipated upcoming expansion in 2027 for Monster Hunter Wilds.
Starting off, the developers introduce the Araketa, a newly discovered group of fliers that ride gusts of wind to close in on prey. They continued to highlight new monsters: Gundoraja, a serpent-like Elder Dragon that can manipulate storms, and a dog-like parasite coming out of a Guardian Doshaguma that may be linked to new endgame content, similar to Qiurios Crafting in the Sunbreak expansion. Other snippets included the heavy dragon Lao-Shan Lung, Kushala Daora, a steel Elder Dragon, and a new Guardian Rathalos being added to the new lineup.
Community excitement reached an all-time high over the teased creatures, with players praising Capcom for keeping up Wilds' track record of having unusual monster concepts. Gundoraja's serpentine shape in particular sparked hope that classic returning monsters like Najarala or Dalamadur might make an appearance down the line, while others were simply glad that Lao-Shan Lung's signature slow movement seems to be sticking around.
Ascendance Takes Place Seven Years After

The trailer picks up the story after the events of the Monster Hunter Wilds base game, revealing that several years have passed since the Expedition Team's encounter with Arkveld. That timeline is thrown into chaos when the Elder Dragon Lao-Shan Lung makes an unexpected appearance, forcing them to build the fortress Madoi Stronghold to strengthen defenses. It's during this stretch that the skies above Wyveria finally begin to open up, uncovering a floating region called the Skybound Eyrie, home to the Gundoraja and ruins no one's ever seen before.
This is also where Nata and company come back in. Once introduced as a young Keeper of the village, Nata has visibly aged up and now works alongside the Expedition Team as a supporting member, with a Wudwud companion named Bangard. Fans reacted positively to seeing an older Nata on screen, with plenty of comments on Reddit curious about the decision for a time skip.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is set to launch sometime in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, with Elder Dragons and Master Rank content returning as part of the expansion's higher difficulty ceiling. For more info and updates on the game, check out the page below:
