Meccha Chameleon Developer Leaves Cryptic Message After Successfully Hitting 20 Million Copies Sold

Meccha Chameleon sold 20 million copies in a short time span, and developer LEMORION marked the milestone with a thank-you message and a cryptic string of characters.

Meccha Chameleon Hits 20 Million Sales in Just Two Months

Developer Thanks Players for the Support

Meccha Chameleon’s developer, LEMORION, expressed gratitude for having surpassed 20 million copies sold on PC, just two months after the game’s June 10th release. Alongside the thank-you message, LEMORION's post on X (Twitter) included an unexplained string of characters, "tj9nbハmsに!" leaving players to wonder if something new is on the way.

Fans have begun making a range of theories, from it being an encoded teaser for a future update or new game to simply being a small inside joke tied to the dev's usual playful branding. LEMORION hasn't clarified its meaning as of writing, and the mystery itself has become part of the conversation around the announcement, with several replies pressing for an answer.

How Meccha Chameleon Took Off

Meccha Chameleon is a hide-and-seek game where players paint their avatar’s bodies to blend into the environment like a literal chameleon, trying to evade detection from hunters (opponents). The concept taps into the hide-and-seek appeal that's fueled other similar multiplayer hits like Witch It and Garry’s Mod. The game’s chaotic co-op, replayability, creative freedom, and watchability seem to have played a direct role in the game's growth.

It’s thanks to these aspects that the game has reached a wide array of players and has been streamed by various content creators in the gaming community. Upon its first week of release, Meccha Chameleon sold 3 million copies. With one of its selling points being co-op, many players have gotten their friends to join in the fun.

While its success is no surprise, upon reaching its 15 million milestone in July, Meccha Chameleon has kept up momentum through collaborations as well as crossovers with fellow viral titles Garten of Banban and Exit 8, both of which carry their own dedicated online followings. Beyond these, the developer has kept the game in the spotlight with regular content updates, adding new maps and expanding its roster of in-game emotes, keeping existing players engaged.

Fans Celebrate and Ask for More Platforms

The community has been positive, sending congratulations from both fans and notable industry figures, including PlayStation's retiree Shuhei Yoshida. Under the post and across different threads, a recurring request throughout the replies was for ports to consoles and mobile. Others also talked about cross-play support if other consoles get the game as well.

Several PC players express a desire for optimization, citing high system requirements as a barrier keeping them from playing, though the developer has yet to address this. For now, players are left with a simple heartfelt thanks and a cryptic code from LEMORION. For more information on the game, check out the page below:
