Marvel Rivals Season 9 Introduces Jubilee
Jubilee joins the roster as a Strategist in The Mystery of Thebes
Marvel Rivals has officially revealed Jubilee as the next playable hero joining its roster, with the X-Men member set to debut when Season 9, The Mystery of Thebes, launches on July 10. The announcement came during NetEase Games' Season 9 Reveal livestream, where the developer outlined the season's story and content roadmap. Alongside Jubilee, the presentation confirmed that longtime Spider-Man villain The Hood will arrive later in the season as part of the mid-season update.
Jubilee joins Marvel Rivals as a Strategist, a support-oriented hero. She is best known in Marvel comics for her fireworks-inspired mutant abilities, but Season 9 introduces a different take on the character. According to NetEase Games, Jubilee turns to Apocalypse after her adopted son, Shogo, becomes permanently trapped in his dragon form because of the Timestream Entanglement, a multiversal event that fused multiple timelines and realities. In exchange for his help, she becomes Apocalypse’s Horseman of Famine.
This impending conflict is directly set up by the new seasonal trailer, which shows X-Men villain Apocalypse against the backdrop of ancient Thebes as he searches for a way to preserve his legacy amid the instability caused by the Timestream Entanglement.
His speech, however, was abruptly interrupted when an unseen attacker seemingly killed him. The Hood surfaces afterwards, saying " mutants, Gods… mira, no one beats The Hood."
Gameplay footage shown during the presentation highlighted Jubilee’s ability to heal allies while dealing damage with her attacks. Her kit appears to be a combination of both team support and crowd control by utilizing a vampiric life-steal ability for self-sustain and a deployable bubble on the battlefield.
When a team fight intensifies, her Ultimate Ability unleashes a large-scale fireworks show capable of affecting multiple opponents. Upon activation, this area-of-effect attack delivers a knockback to nearby enemies to disrupt their positioning, then deals continuous damage to opponents while providing healing to friendly allies within its radius.
What's New in Marvel Rivals Season 9?
In addition to the two new heroes, Season 9 introduces a big overhaul to Marvel Rivals’ Team-Up system. NetEase is replacing the existing format with Dual Loadouts, which allows every hero to equip two Team-Up configurations. Each Loadout consists of a Base Effect that is always active and an Enhanced Effect that becomes available when paired with specific teammates.
For example, when playing as Jubilee, who she teams up with changes how she supports the team. Teaming up with Blade upgrades her vampiric health-drain ability into a team-wide healing field, meaning any allies standing inside it get healed continuously.
On the other hand, teaming up with The Hood allows her to attack any target carrying his mark with an instant-hit laser beam that can easily melt opponents and zap health back into her teammates.
The update also includes a broad set of hero balance changes. Black Widow is receiving one of the season’s largest adjustments, with updates to her primary weapon and Electro-Plasma abilities. Several other heroes will receive buffs and nerfs as part of the Season 9 balance pass, with the complete list scheduled to be published in the official patch notes.
Furthermore, Season 9 will introduce a new Battle Pass featuring Egyptian-themed cosmetics inspired by The Mystery of Thebes, along with additional character skins and seasonal rewards. NetEase confirmed that more content will be released throughout the season, including The Hood’s arrival in the mid-season update.
