Marvel Rivals Lower Manhattan Map Releases on April 2

Marvel Rivals is releasing a new map, Lower Manhattan, tomorrow on April 2 which features a distinct look into the state of New York in the Marvel Rivals timeline and the potential inclusion of The Hood.

Marvel Rivals Takes a Trip to Fisk’s Manhattan

Marvel Rivals’ newest map, Lower Manhattan, is releasing tomorrow on April 2 as part of the ongoing Season 7 updates. Lower Manhattan will be a "Convergence" style map, where players must capture a point before transporting a convoy across the map, all while fighting off the defending team.

Lower Manhattan will also be the first map added for the main quick play and competitive game modes since Season 4 introduced the K'un-Lun: Heart of Heaven map. It is currently the third New York-based map in the game, following the Dracula-run Midtown and Central Park, and it contains several easter eggs, details, and landmarks familiar to most Marvel fans.

A no Fisk protest poster in the Lower Manhattan map

The map will take players across the Manhattan area, which includes several key New York locations from the Marvel universe, such as Empire State University and Grand Central Station, with details like a gold statue of Jeff the Landshark and posters protesting against Mayor Wilson Fisk lining the map. Lower Manhattan eventually takes players to underground labs and a prison area which could either be The Raft or Ryker’s Island, two notable prisons in the Marvel universe.

The Hood Might Be Coming to Marvel Rivals

In line with all the other maps currently in Marvel Rivals, Lower Manhattan is heavily inspired by the surrounding lore and theme of the current season, which now focuses on New York’s temporal displacement in the timeline and Wilson Fisk’s subsequent crackdown on superheroes. Fisk, also known as the Kingpin, has appeared in the Lower Manhattan trailer conversing with a demonic hand in a prison facility.

Curiously, the trailer ends with a prolonged shot at a hood enclosed in glass, which is a strong hint towards The Hood possibly appearing in the game. That being said, The Hood’s wielder, small-time crook turned crime boss and Dormammu acolyte Parker Robbins, is nowhere to be seen in the trailer.

Marvel Rivals is no stranger to teasing potential new heroes in the game’s maps and trailers prior to their inclusion in the game, most notably with Blade present in the Central Park and Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda: Birnin T'Challa maps before his release in Season 3. Other potential characters that have been teased in Marvel Rivals’ trailers include Cyclops and Devil Dinosaur, but, much like The Hood, it remains to be seen when, if at all, these characters will be added to the game.

On-and-off Spider-Man love interest Felicia Hardy, aka the Black Cat, was also teased in a previous season before her upcoming inclusion in the game. She is slated for release sometime in mid-April during the Season 7.5 mid-season update.

Marvel Rivals is out now for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For more on Marvel’s multiversal multiplayer hero shooter, read our article here:
