Marvel Rivals Devs Detail Gorr the God Butcher's Kit for Season 10
Creative Leads Unveil the Morphing Necrosword and Minion Army in Dev Vision Vol. 21
Marvel Rivals is set to welcome Gorr the God Butcher as a playable character when Season 10 releases on September 11, 2026, as announced by developer NetEase Games. Detailed by Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong in the studio's latest Dev Vision Vol. 21 broadcast, the iconic Thor antagonist will enter the superhero shooter as a melee-centric Duelist. Gorr is scheduled to arrive as a day-one free roster unlock alongside the seasonal update, titled "Butcher’s Blasphemy."
During the showcase, the combat team demonstrated how Gorr's weapon, All-Black the Necrosword, dynamically alters its shape mid-combat. Players can morph the blade into longer-reaching constructs like a scythe to strike at distance, or execute defeated enemies to harvest their biomass and summon AI-controlled Black Berserker minions. Gorr can also reposition through lanes using Symbiote Assimilation before triggering his Ultimate Ability, the Annihilablade, which drives his active minion swarm into a coordinated frenzy to overwhelm backline defenders.
Gorr Arrives as the Only New Hero in Season 10

Unlike previous seasons that introduced two heroes, Guangguang confirmed during the broadcast that Gorr will be the only new character added to the roster in Season 10. He explained that the studio shifted team bandwidth toward developing upcoming Path to Doomsday event modes arriving in Season 10.5.
During the broadcast's combat segment, Zhiyong also detailed major competitive updates arriving alongside the season, confirming that roughly 70% of the active roster will receive balance adjustments alongside an overhaul to the ranked draft system, which replaces simultaneous double-bans with turn-based team voting.

The seasonal update also introduces the narrative foundation for "Butcher’s Blasphemy." Gorr seeks to wipe out all divine beings across the multiverse simultaneously. By bringing a cosmic device known as the Faith Harvesting Engine to the God Quarry—an ancient graveyard outside of space and time where gods go to die—Gorr intends to assemble and detonate the apocalyptic God Bomb. This storyline directly sets up the game's new Domination map, titled "God Quarry," scheduled to release on September 24, 2026.
Alongside the new map, the update will see the return of Galacta’s Gift, a recurring event where players complete daily match missions to earn in-game rewards and a free Costume Coin, which can be redeemed for an alternate character skin from the refreshed event shop. To tease Gorr's storyline crusade against divine beings, NetEase even deployed an in-game teaser by temporarily disabling Loki from Quick Play selection and draining the color palette from the Yggsgard map.
Fans Divided Over Gorr's Duelist Class and Single-Hero Release

Following the Dev Vision broadcast, players across Reddit and X quickly voiced mixed reactions to Gorr's classification. While fans widely praised NetEase for choosing a comic-accurate, alien aesthetic complete with his dark cloak and digitigrade legs over the MCU's live-action design, many expressed surprise that the character is joining as a Duelist rather than a Vanguard. Several community members pointed out the growing class imbalance—with Duelists now outnumbering Vanguards and Strategists combined—arguing that Gorr's imposing physical frame and lore durability made him an ideal candidate for a frontline tank.
Additionally, players debated the decision to feature only one new character for the entire season. While some expressed disappointment at the slower roster expansion, veteran competitive players largely welcomed the tradeoff, citing the pressing need for the studio's massive balance pass and long-awaited ranked ban rework over more character bloat.
