Mario Kart Tour Shutdown Announced
Service Ends on September 29
Mario Kart Tour is set to go offline on September 29 at 11:00 PM PT, as confirmed by the game's official X (Twitter) account. The post reflects the Nintendo site's end-of-service announcement, thanking the community for its years of support for the mobile game and directing players to in-game notices or the official details on how remaining rubies and Gold Pass subscriptions can be dealt with.
In a separate announcement post, Nintendo turned off both auto-renewals and new Gold Pass sign-ups during the July 7 maintenance. Anyone already subscribed at that point, including free-trial users, can keep Gold Pass perks for free through the end of service, minus any rewards tied specifically to an uninterrupted subscription. Players who weren't subscribed as of July 7 will have to wait a bit longer, as those same benefits will only become free for everyone else starting August 4 with the Vacation Tour and until the game’s closure.
According to Mario Kart Tour's official FAQ, there are currently no plans to release an offline version of the game once support ends. This contrasts with how Nintendo previously handled the shutdown of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which got a standalone complete release that players could keep using even after its servers closed. Ruby purchases are already unavailable, though any rubies players currently hold can still be spent in the Spotlight Shop, Mii Racing Suit Shop, and Coin Rush up until service ends.
Players Upset About the Shutdown, Requesting for Offline Mode
The majority of the community was upset at the announcement, with most of the pushback aimed at Nintendo's decision to skip an offline release, especially since Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp got one. Several players said they'd gladly pay for something similar to keep the game alive, but many already expect their complaints to go unanswered.
Apart from this, some online fans voiced concern over losing years of progress and badges for good, with a few asking if any of it could carry over to other Mario Kart games. Many players were simply nostalgic, thanking the game for the years of fun and noting they can still race some of its tracks through the Booster Course Pass in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
