In what came as a shocking surprise for the franchise following the recent announcements of a PS5 release and an anime adaptation, a movie adaptation of Lollipop Chainsaw has been revealed to be in the works.
It will reportedly be an R-rated action-comedy focusing on the protagonist Juliet's life before the zombie outbreak of the original game.
No further details have been disclosed regarding the film's setting or plot.

Hollywood executives have big plans to turn Juliet into a "global pop culture star." The upcoming film adaptation will receive a global release, as Ambitious Entertainment CEO Kirk Shaw (The Hurt Locker) and Intaglio Films Managing Director Robert Franke (Viper) confirmed their joint intention to have the zombie-killer cheerleader and her iconic chainsaw reach an international audience.
"I fell in love with Juliet […] I want to unleash Juliet and bring her to Hollywood with me," said Shaw. Nada Holdings founder Joe Teng and Throne Inc Managing Director Takafumi Yuki showed full support for this vision, expressing strong confidence in Lollipop Chainsaw’s ability to resonate with old and new fans worldwide.
Franke wrapped up the surprise movie reveal by thanking fans and promising an "exceptional and entertaining" film, while Shaw added that "there’s no superhero in Hollywood like [Juliet]."
The Movie Will Be a Live-Action Adaptation
The upcoming adaptation will be a live-action feature. Lollipop Chainsaw is the latest IP to join the Hollywood video game live-action adaptation boom, following hit franchises like The Last of Us, Fallout, and God of War. Confirmed to be an action-packed horror-comedy, time will tell if the project can match the critical and commercial success of Zach Cregger’s recently released Resident Evil film, which achieved the highest rating of all time for a video game movie on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
As of writing, no director or writer has been confirmed for the project. However, fans hope to see the return of filmmaker James Gunn and writer Suda51, the creative duo behind the original 2012 game who are not involved in its upcoming sequel.
What is Lollipop Chainsaw?
Originally released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in June 2012, Lollipop Chainsaw is an action hack-and-slash game by Grasshopper Manufacture that follows Juliet, a cheerleader/zombie hunter. Set in a fictional California high school, Lollipop Chainsaw sees Juliet and the head of her recently decapitated boyfriend, Nick, take on an incursion from the "Rotten World" as they hunt down the undead and their five elite overlords.
The game was initially met with lukewarm reviews for its "repetitive, bland, slow, and unsatisfying"
gameplay, but has since garnered a cult following, partly because it inspired filmmaker James Gunn’s 2021 movie, Suicide Squad.
Following its resurgent popularity, Lollipop Chainsaw received an official remaster, titled Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, in September 2024, to similar reception to the original.
