NIS America Announces Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure for PS5 and Switch 2

Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure Come with Updated Features

The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero and The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure are making their way to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 in Fall 2026. Publisher NIS America announced on May 5, 2026, that both titles will be sold individually through digital storefronts, but a bundled physical collection containing both games will also be available.

These updated versions come with a couple of technical upgrades, most notably support for up to 4K resolution and 120 fps gameplay. As a bonus for Switch 2 players, they’ll be receiving mouse input support. According to the recently updated Amazon store page for France, physical copies of the games on Switch 2 are Game-Key Cards.

These ports also mark the first time a PlayStation version of the Crossbell games will run with fully enhanced visuals, as previous PS4 releases were notorious for having graphical shortcomings compared to other platforms. All players will be able to toggle between the original textures and an upscaled version, and a high-speed mode is included for those who want to move through the game at a faster pace.

Trails to Azure further expands on its predecessor's gameplay with new combat options such as Burst and Back Attack mechanics, as well as a car that players can outfit to their liking. Players who carry over a completed save from Trails from Zero will also find extra scenes and alternate dialogue woven into the experience. Familiar faces from the Trails of Cold Steel games make guest appearances throughout.

Trails Games that Focus on Crossbell City’s Story

    Image
Trails from Zero stars Lloyd Bannings, a young man who returns to his hometown of Crossbell after a three-year absence, intending to honor his late brother's memory by joining the local police force. Things don't go quite as planned—he's instead placed in the Special Support Section, a newly formed unit tasked with handling miscellaneous requests. His new teammates include the mayor's granddaughter, Elie MacDowell, an ex-soldier named Randy Orlando, and a young prodigy in technology, Tio Plato. The game follows his squad as they uncover corruption and help resolve the city’s inner turmoil.

The follow-up, Trails to Azure, resumes Lloyd's journey only a short while after the first game ends. A seemingly fragile peace has settled over Crossbell, and the Special Support Section has earned a degree of public recognition for their earlier efforts—but that quiet doesn't last long. Several organizations begin pursuing their own agendas behind the scenes, while the geopolitical tension between the Erebonian Empire and the Republic of Calvard continues to squeeze Crossbell from both sides.

The developers have yet to confirm an exact release date for either game, but updates are expected to roll out over time as the launch period nears. Both titles are currently playable on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC, with the PS5 and Switch 2 versions set to follow.
